Please pray for me at this Saturday's gig that all goes well.

They would get me. That is what my clients want and pay for. I do not have to convince people to hire me, when they call me they have already made up there mind. That is what happens when you run your business right. After this long ass post all you are doing is another free and low paying job and 5 days from now you will bitch about someone wanting a cheap DJ. Guess what you are that cheap DJ. Hate to break the news to you people do not hire you because you are good, they hire you because you are cheap and will let people walk all over you because you know them. you shouldn't post until you get a PAYING job with a signed contract from a client who isn't related to you or isn't a friend of a friend. Let us know when you get a call from someone looking for a DJ and you book it and then do the job yourself.

I will get something for doing it. It's my best friends brother. I 've known his whole family for the last 48 years. This one for me is not just about a money thing like all of them are to you.

By the way please enlighten all of us. If you were doing the gig and they agreed to pay you $950 like you stated that's the price you would have quoted them, what would he get if he paid you that much? In other words convince us that you would be worth $950 to do this event. Please be specific.

As I thought, another non paying Machoman gig. Sunday morning he will be on here bitching, and making excuses on how his partners made him late, difficult load in, crowd left early, no one danced, subs didn't work, food was cold, young thugs in the PLACE, etc, etc, etc.

Or he will come back with pictures of 8-12 people stating that the party was "THROUGH THE ROOF", and his 17 mismatched subwoofers knocked down the chandeliers in the ballroom.

I have placed MIXMASTERMACHOMAN in my official Ass-clown file.

Good luck on the gig, champ.....

Mix best friends or not your time is money, you blow a speaker who is going to pay for it

Oh that is a given. I will be how there wasn't enough time for people to dance and to show his skills. He won't have video because something will have been messed up on the camera. The photos will all be blurry and the back of peoples heads. The guest count will be inflated but the pictures will show 5 people dancing. Yes it is the same old story over and over and over again. Nothing has changed and nothing will ever change. MixMasterihavenoideawhatiamdoing will be the joke and the entertainment on these boards and nothing more.

You still didn't tell us what they would get if they booked you to do it for $950 chicken! Let's hear all the great things they would get if you did the gig and got paid $950 oh mighty DJ.

A lot of the people there will be church people. No thugs allowed at this place. I did say it earlier. I don't expect a lot of people to stay the whole 4 hours because of what he wants me to play in the beginning. It's a 60th birthday celebration and he wants contemporary jazz and gospel to begin with. He is to arrive at 2:45 and he wants to come in on I Believe I Can Fly. Then go back to the contemporary stuff. Then at 4:45 play the song Happy. After that go into the line dance songs and finally to end things off some dance music. So my guess is there won't be plenty of dancing in the beginning. Just people eating first, talking to each other and some people making speeches. I suspect there won't be many people left when it's time to get the people up dancing. I hope I'm wrong but I'm just following orders. I wouldn't even suggest a thing this time. Normally I would make a few suggestions when it comes to wanting music like that through out most of the event. It's his call and I just want to see how things work out. I want to see if I'm right or wrong with this one.

Mix I did tell you. They get me. They want more they pay for more. I know this is hard for you to understand since you give everything away for free but real business owners know how to charge what they are worth. If this party was at night it would have been a $1200 starting rate and to let you know they get ME. No lights, no extra sound. They get me to perform at their party and help their guests have a good and memorable time.

That's it for $1,200! Only you . So you like ripping clients off ? LOL .

Yeah it is really funny. I make money and am able to pay all my bills buy what I want and support my family. Where you are doing a job that you might get something at the end. Where you have to hope more then 20 people show up so they can even cover the cost of the Hall. Keep laughing, I know I am at you.

Stop player hating mix. Instead you should be getting advice on how you might step your pay game up. Obviously his clients see the value in what he offers, and have no problem paying his price.

Who are you to say that he's ripping someone off? Your always asking someone what they would charge for a gig, and how they justify what they charge. Just worry about you.

Like I stated before, if you were truly half as good as your ego leads you to believe, at minimum you would be busy every weekend, and clients would be throwing money your way. You wouldn't be doing small gigs with 20 or so people, and splitting $200 with 2-3 partners.

2 years from now, you will still be here with your same tired ass stories, and problems like trying to figure out how to charge more then $250 for a gig.

By the way, how did the repair turn out on your dsr115's? Who will be wiring your stuff up on Saturday?

This is brutal. 4 pages about a freejay gig. Just show up and do a good job. That's not enough to grow a thriving business, but it's certainly a start.
Mix has been on this forum for years asking for and ignoring advice, has a had a website created for him for free when he said it cost too much to have one done, he never used it, In my opinion he is here only for my personal entertainment, very few if any take him seriously any longer

Mix it seems like every weekend your busy ( busy doing nothing and making No money ) Mix each one of us has our own style, cliental, and personality and we deal with each event as it comes our way. It seems you have the worst of all of them. Mix to me I don't but I hope you do get that big wedding for 1200 bucks or so but I'm sorry from what you have showed us in your pictures its not gonna happen

Mix I want to show you something and you need to see this. There are people that will pay a premium price for a premium service. If you look at 1200 dollars as ripping people off you have found neither one. Raise your game and raise your pay. What do you do that is different than anyone else around you. Here are two recent events and their review of our services and the price they paid. This is on Weddingwire and the wedding was last Saturday the price of the event was 1550 for 7 1/2 hours.

As I sit here in Jamaica with my husband at my side-we can't help but to reminisce on how perfect out day was. if you've ever been to a wedding you get that entertainment is everything. Without a good DJ most weddings are a flop! TNG was anything but a flop! From the first moment when I contacted Dave via email he responded immediately via phone call. I instantly fell in love with his enthusiasim and passion that he clearly had for music. Like most brides, i had a million and one questions and Dave always replied within the hour! He was so happy and willing to help in any way possible at all times. With that said, he and his wife even make it a point to make it to the rehearsal dinner so that my bridal party could get a feel for the music they were about to walk down the isle too. It was very helpful and also made my groom and I extremely excited for the following day!
My dad wanted to choose our father daughter dance song without me knowing what it was. my dad contacted Dave and they set up the song without my knowledge. My dad wanted to surprise me so I thought I would surprise him as well. TNG offers a voice over for brides so i thought it would be an exceptions opportunity to surprise dad. Needless to say a father daughter dance song is already emotional but the moment that voiceover came on not only did my dad and i burst into tears-but it seems like all the guests did too!
We have continued to get reviews from friends about how amazing our wedding entertainment was and we owe a lot of it to TNG and Dave. Thank you so much for making it the best day ever!

Here is the other one from about 1 month ago. This included Photobooth and the total time for event was 6 hours 1900. Please let me know if you think either one of these brides felt ripped off. I'm not showing this to pat myself on the back but I do listen to everything I hear on these forums and I do take advice. The proof is always in the pudding. We only do about 20 to 25 event each year but I strive for the best. Remember the facade I bought? Everyone of our brides has fallen in love it and have felt it added to the total look of their event. Here is the second review.

Professional, accommodating, trust-worthy, hard-working, knowledgable- so glad we booked TNG!
Dave & Cathy helped guide our wedding planning from the moment we first spoke. From the start- the process was so professional, organized, & personalized that they quickly gained my trust!! This made wedding planning low-stress & really fun to actually plan! As our wedding day approached, Dave attended our rehearsal where he worked closely with our venue coordinators & bridal party to ensure everyone was on the same page. Our guests loved the excitement, music, photo booth, & dancing!!
I learned of TNG's excellent reputation from two of his previous clients. To those planning their upcoming weddings, I cannot express enough how pleased we were to have them as a part of our wedding!

Here is an email from a bride yesterday whose wedding was 3 weeks ago. Again I'm just showing you the money and the clients are out there you just have to find out how to get to them and you have been given that advice many times. I have seen the posts here in the forum. The pay for this was 1850 with a 150 dollar tip. Ceremony, reception and Photobooth.

Thanks Dave!

I just want to say THANK YOU. I am still sort of processing everything, and settling back into normalcy. I will definitely be leaving you an A+ review on wedding wire, yelp etc. over the next couple of months. I just can't thank you enough for everything. You were instrumental in making our wedding magical and just perfect.

More positive feedback to come Dave!

Sorry to everyone here. I didn't mean to start a riot. I was just looking for a little sympathy because I know this guy at times can be a PITA. So I'm doing his birthday celebration this Saturday. He called me last night to ask me could he hear the song that he is to enter on. The song is by R Kelly and it's I Believe I Can Fly. I wanted to make sure I have the right version since he claims there is more then one version of that song. I never knew there was more then one version of that song. I was busy anyway when he called me and couldn't do it anyway. Now does that sound a bit crazy to you.

Personally if it were me I would pick a song that is more upbeat to come in on. It's a birthday celebration! I would want people to be excited when I come in ready to have some fun. Let me say I'm a big R Kelly fan and I love that song. That's just not a song I would pick to come in on.

Jimmy as for your comment about me having enough time to show off my so called skills you're wrong. My concern is about the guest having a good time. Everybody I talked to including a couple of DJs said what he wants for his music and when he wants it sounds like a big disaster waiting to happen. Again he wants me to start off playing both contemporary jazz and gospel at exactly 2pm. That's the time the event is to start. He is to come in at 2:45 and he wants me to play that song. Then go back to this contemporary stuff. In between the music there will be people there of course wanting to say a few words about him and wish him happy birthday. He did a song change. He wants the Jackson's song Shake Your Body Down To The Ground playing at 4:45 for someone to do a dance to. At 5 he wants me to play a bunch of line dance songs and then go into music people can dance to at the end. Please keep in mind this event is from 2-6pm. 4 hours and it's over. My job is to do as I'm told and that's what I will do.

One of my closest DJ friends when he heard me tell him what he wants that I need to call him back and tell him he needs me to play more dancable stuff besides all that jazz and gospel. In other words mix it up a bit so people can enjoy themselves. I agree but like I said I'm sticking to his plan for now. When the people start complaining to me I'm going to tell them to talk to him. Put the ball in his court since it's his event and not mine.

Please let me know what do you think of his idea for the music and how he wants it? Please do forget that it's me asking this question. I just want to see what do you think because like I said everybody I talked to said that sounded like a bad idea.

The other thing since I got to get ready to take a shower and get ready today to go get another MRI done at 12:30 is this. I wasn't hating against Jimmy at all. I just called him out to see what his response was going to be as to why he felt he deserves to get paid $950 for 4 hours if he was doing this event from 2-6pm. I was expecting him to say because they would be getting him. That's what I feel most of us on here would say the same thing. I don't see anybody asking a client to pay them $950 telling them to pay that much because I'm a sorry ass DJ. LOL

Let me say I've never met Jimmy or seen him in action. So I can't give my own opinion as to what I think he is worth. No disrespect meant to you at all Jimmy. So don't take it personal. I don't know if what he claims he get paid to these jobs is true or not. That's not for me to say. Again Jimmy don't take it personal. Now to be fair Jimmy regularly says that he gets paid that kind of money and people don't hesitate to pay him that much because usually it's someone that has already seen him at work. So for him to get that much from someone who has already seen him in action is GREAT and I'm not mad at that at all. More power to you Jimmy! My question is this and I'm not picking on Jimmy. It's just a question for all to answer. What if it's somebody that has never seen you in action and it's a cold call or email just looking for a DJ to do an event for the. How would you convince them that you're worth $950 to do a 4 hour birthday celebration on a Saturday from 2-6pm and as you said all they will be getting is you? No lights and no other frills. Please people keep in mind I'm not attacking Jimmy at all. Just asking a question. In other words what would you say or do to convince that person to book you and not another DJ that would be willing to do it for far less money then that? When answering the question please forget that it's me asking the question and please keep you ego out of the way. Every car manufacturer will tell you they make the best cars and you don't need to look anywhere else when looking to buy a vehicle because we are the best. That's what they are supposed to say if they want people to buy their cars.
