This may have been discussed before, Im not sure, I couldnt find it here, and it could could have been on another forum.
What do you guys and gals think about posting your prices on your website?

On one hand I think its good to weed out the low ballers and waisting consulting time with people who don`t even have a budget to come close to what I think my entertainment is worth.

On the other hand it doesn`t let you in the "door" to discuss their event and sell yourself.

Right now I have posted prices on my site because I want to try it out and I'm sick of the people calling me to say "this is what were paying" or trying tell me they have another quote from someone else for like $500 cheaper.
I've decided pre-designed and come up with what they are worth. They are the same prices even if I did not post them, that does not change.

whats your take on this? I really want to eliminate working cheap events in 2007 for anyone just for the sake of having a gig. I do have a day job, so the bills is not an issue, although I would like to get rid of the day job one day.
(by the way, I'm a Licensed Auto/Home Insurance Broker incase anyone was wondering)

All your points are good ones.

I post my prices. I like it that way.

In case anyone was wondering, I am a tool that is looking for work; however, I have a chance at getting a teaching job in February.

I used to post them, but still got a fair number of people calling and asking what they were anyway, so I took 'em down. Now I would much rather have the chance to listen to them and sell them on myself and services.

With your background in insurance sales, you may wish to take the more personal approach for a time and see how that works out for you...

By removing your prices from your site, you increase the amount of people calling you but you may not be increasing the number of people booking you.

Although I honestly believe that if your website is not in tip top shape that may count against you if your a higher priced DJ.

I've had my prices posted on my website ever since I created my first one in 1996. I've had so many people thank me for doing it, and said they avoided websites that did not have any prices. I do the same thing when shopping for products online.

I believe its good for the industry, not only does it establish credibility but it helps to educate the consumer.

Well, I did it. I put my price on my website. Not on a separate page but the wedding page...

Contact us today and discover how Hitman Entertainment Professional Disc Jockey Service can give you the wedding you've always dreamed of from only $1000.00.

I know. My base price I've been charging for this year has been $995. I figured what the hell, make it an even grand.

I'm gonna change it though :sqwink: :sqwink:

Nobody will flinch between 950.00 or 1000.00, its all in your head. I had a big problem myself with going over $1000.00 However, when I did I went to 1150.00 then in the same year when to 1250.00 Now for the same show I'm at 1595.00 and I'm still getting the same amount of bookings.

I don't know Main...

I tried a few experiments and people flinch more at 1000 than 995.

As a matter of fact I had one bride ask if I could go lower than 1000. I told her, "well, it is a Friday, I can do it for $995." She replied with "OMG that's gr--wait a minute"

I think JC Penny was on to something oh so many years ago.....

Here's what I have on my "booking rates" page.

maybe some others could share what they've written. I'm overhauling mine in the next few months.

Great Disc Jockey's are like restaurants; they don't advertise their prices. Why? Fine Dining and DJ's are not valued according to price. Its about having the best time possible and an unbeatable atmosphere. Its about having an awesome show that people will remember for years to come. Its about total service from beginning to end. Its about you. Please contact us to secure a quote today for your event. Remember, just like 5 star restaurants, you need to book early to receive first course treatment.

If I had thought like that when I was 995.00 I never would have made it to $1500.00. As long as your working with a referal business you should have no problem going over $1000.00 if your currently $900.00

There will always be people that dont want to spend $1500.00 or or $1000.00 in fact there are people that dont want to spend $950.00 Dont worry about the people that get turned off by $25.00 concentrate on the ones that will.

JT,

Thats a completely awful analogy and sounds very cheesy. Heres something thats written on my site for pricing

When shopping for your wedding services, we recommend meeting with several companies with different pricing structures. We realize it's important to keep costs within your budget. Shopping for wedding vendors that will be a large part of the success of your event, should be taken with great care.

Most couples will only hire a Disc Jockey, Photographer or Videographer once in their lives, many do not know the right questions to ask, and some merely base their decision on price. Interviewing several companies with different levels of pricing will ensure that you are not only hiring the right people, but not compromising on quality.

Arnoldo, its all in how you say it too. I wouldnt go to 1000.00 said one thousand. I'd go to 1050.00 said ten fifty. One thousand sounds like alot especially if you get tongue tied but ten fifty sounds less. Worked for me anyways. Dont stop at 1000.00 go right to eleven hundred. :)

From $995 to $1100, there is quite a jump there..

Its only 10%, now 500 to 1000 is quite a jump. Going form $950.00 to $1100 was alot easier than I thought, especially once you have the client base already paying the 950.00

OK, back to the topic at hand. It's not what you charge, but whether you publish this amount on your website.

As I said earlier, I've put my base rate on my site to see what happens. If I don't get any calls, guess I'll pull it back off.

I kinda understand how it sounds cheesy, but I don't see how its an awful analogy?

I like what you have written by the way. When I get a call from a first time client and I feel they are getting a little sticker shock, I often tell them to go and check with other dj services to see if their needs are really going to be met when they compare to my sales pitch. I would say I get called back to get the booking about 20% of the time. When I know I'm a little higher than other's price range, I think 20% return isn't too bad.
