I would like a few recommendations for a Projector to be used mainly for Karaoke Lyrics. It would be nice to have one with several input options such as HDMI, VGA and S-Video.

For a second recommendation what portable, easy setup screen would be a good buy? I plan on upcharging $100.00- $150.00 each time I have to use it.

Canute S-Video is hard to find along with HDMI but it is findable. As for a projector I recommend this Projector.

That looks like a nice one, it has all the connections/inputs I need. Thanks
At a Gig I did yesterday, the Client supplied the Projector and Screen. My new laptop has HDMI out and the projector had VGA in. I used a Powered HDMI two way splitter from the laptop. One went to the Singer's Monitor and the other to a HDMI to VGA Converter to the Projector. It worked real well. My older Laptop has s-video and VGA outputs so its important that the projector have several input options.

Because karaoke lyrics are generally very low-resolution, you won't need the fanciest or most expensive projector to do what you need.

Personally, I like the BenQ short-throw projectors. This one, the MS612ST, is less than $500 and has the inputs you need. I have an earlier version of it that I use as a backup projector, but my wife is a teacher and sometimes takes it to school with her when she needs to show video. It works well and is bright enough to be seen in almost anywhere.

Screens are a different story - I have an 80" manual pull-up screen that gets a lot of use. I prefer it to a tripod-type screen because you can place it on a table and get some added height when you need it. With that said, I also own a 6'x8' Draper Cinefold screen - it's identical to a Da-Lite Fastfold, and it rocks. Of course, it's big and heavy to transport and requires two people to set up.

The BenQ would do the job but if he ever decided to do slide shows for weddings that BenQ would not be suitable because of the low resolution.

For karaoke audience use, I use an older 32" LCD .. large enough for the small venues I do (I don't have too much physical room to use a screen, otherwise I'd use a projector). I usually just sit it on a table. The nice thing about the projector is you can get REALLY big if you need it to (>100in) and if you have the room or screen to show it on.

Correct - but he did say it's "mainly for karaoke lyrics". Most karaoke tracks use 4-bit graphics with a resolution of 300×216.

What about 42" LCD screen?

No lamp changes. Big enough to read from the back of the room if needed. karaoke text is big!

Global truss makes mounts for these on their vertical truss stands....Plus 42" is cheap these days!
That sounds great but I think the protection for transport, plus the setup to mount it would make it bulky and time consuming. Its a great idea though. It may be cheaper than projector plus screen. Hmmmm

I did state "Mainly for Karaoke", however by opening discussions like this thread, one gets different ideas from the others. They have now given me a new option.
Weighing in so far, the Projector and screen is less bulky, easier to transport and afford a larger screen or projection on wall if necessary.

I just bought this today to house and transport my Video Cables, HDMI, VGA, Component, CompositeS-Video etc lengths for each from 6 ft. - 75ft. each type)Video Converters, TV mount for Stand etc. There will be room in there for the Projector if I go that route. Can you tell I love Racks, speakers and containers with Wheels? LOL

I use this projector, Epson EX7210:

The Epson is Bright, a tad over 6 feet gets full coverage on my 120" diagonal screen.I'm very happy with the ease of setup and performance.

Interfaces:
  • Computer / Component video: D-sub 15 pin x 1
  • S-video: Mini DIN x 1
  • Composite video: RCA (Yellow) x 1
  • HDMI x 1
  • Audio in: RCA x 1 (White / Red)
  • USB connector: Type A x 1 (USB memory)
  • USB connector: Type B x 1

Best,
