I need to upgrade my mixer, I've been getting by with a cheap one for too long. It's noisy and lets so much line noise into the signal. I'm thinking most likely something under $500 and brands Denon, Numark, or Pioneer. I'm going to add one to my Amazon wishlist and either get it for Christmas or buy it with money from my New Year's Eve Gig.

Needs to be a 19" 4 channel DJ mixer with at least 3 mic inputs. Other features are not important, mainly need quality and low noise. Extra features are fun but not necessary.

Here are two I've found on Amazon. Please offer your thoughts or recommend another model. Thanks!

Why do you need 3 mic inputs on a DJ mixer?

I can answer that from my point of view - doing primarily weddings/receptions.

I utilize 2 W/L EV RE2s and one H/H EV for myself.

Most of my receptions go down like this;

Grand Entrance/Introductions (H/H for me)
Toasts (1 W/L for MOH/BM)
Blessing (1 W/L for Officiant)

If I didn't have 3 inputs, I would have to walk over to the MOH/BM once they were finished and then deliver it to the Officiant.

I am leaning towards the Denon...as I said my main goal is low noise, high quality. I hate having any hum/buzz/hiss coming out of my speakers. Built-in reverb and sound effects are not important.

I *prefer* to have 3 mic inputs for times when I do a ceremony and reception combo that is one room. Then I need wireless lapel for officiant, wireless handheld for toasts, and wired handheld for me and don't have to switch them out or use a coupler or anything. I can make due with 2 but like having a 3rd just in case. On my current mixer channel 1 can be stereo input or mic 3, which I like.

Greg, are those mixers you mentioned quiet? You can email me any info at [email protected] and I'll check it out.

Question if anyone knows this. When comparing the under $500 Denon to the $1,000 Pioneer what can you tell me about the quality of the sound...clarity...noise in the line? Can you quantify it somehow? I am using a Gemini now and want to hear a substantial improvement in the noise that comes through to the speakers. It has gotten worse in the past 6 months.

I love my Denon X-900

In my main system I am using a Denon X-900 which I love. I am using the Numark C3FX mixer for my ceremony system because it has up to 5 mic inputs. The Denon is definitely a better quality mixer. You can feel it just by touching it. But the additional mic inputs are very useful on the Numark. I personally wouldn't use it as a main mixer (I don't think it'd last long enough) but ceremony system is perfect for me...

Hope this helps a little...

Pioneer 5000 SN line-102db / mic-84db

Denon x500 SN line-82db / mic-65db

BTW, specs aside the Denon is a very good mixer.

Since you're running a Gemini board now, the Denon will definately be an improvement. I know how it is... we ran a Gemini mixer for a few years. :D

Your pro quality mixers will offer all balanced line mic inputs and outputs via XLR.

The Denon should suit your needs well. The Rane and Pio may be out of your price range but they come highly recommended.
