Hey all,
I am booked to do the music for a local indoor motorcross event, and am going to make some annoucements, play some tunes between races, etc. I plan to do some classic rock, some modern country, some heavy rock, some modern rock, some metal, etc during the event. One thing the promoters want is a 10 second segment after announcements when the bikes are getting lined up for the heats featuring some music to "pump up the crowd" just before the flag drops.

WHat are your best rock (classic and modern) and metal riffs/segments?

I am thinking....Welcome to the Jungle, Down With the Sickness, Walk this Way, Shoot to Thrill, Fly From the Inside, Dragonfly, Top of the World, etc....

any specific suggestions from the pros here?!

thanks in advance,
Jeff

Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride. :)

Earache My Eye - Cheech & Chong

30 second opening guitar riff. Most people will have no idea what it is. The 5% of the audience that does know the song will be smiling enough to light up the whole place!
If that's not hard rock enough, try Korn's cover version!

Here are some more typical songs:
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love - Van Halen
Eruption - Van Halen
Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult
Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crue
Bad Girlfriend - Theory of a Deadman
Dirt Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC-DC
Thunderstruck - AC-DC
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
Bawitdaba - Kid Rock

excellent selections guys.....I love this gig, as I rarely get to play the music I like to listen to for fun! Should be great....I am going to be up in an elevated booth, with the best seat in the house, with bikes flying by me, and under me.....I will have to get some photos of it all.

More modern rock/metal riffs anyone?

MODERN?

Chickenfoot. Steve Via, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, and Sammy Hagar.
YouTube- Chickenfoot - "Oh Yeah" Music Video

They have LOTS of great tracks on their album...

and if you want GREAT guitar riff.... I'm wondering why no one has mentioned one of the most well known and greatest riffs of all time...

YouTube- Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water w/ lyrics

But 'great' riffs are easy enough to find. Between the southern rock bands (Foghat, Lynyrd Skynryd, etc) and the classic rock groups (AC/DC, Zepplin, Stones, etc) and the metal 'hair' bands (Scorpions, Whitesnake, Poison, Skid Row, etc) and the 'guitar' soloists (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc) and the 'harder' metal bands (be it speed, thrash, etc - Slayer, Rammstein, King Diamond, etc) it's hard to NOT find a good guitar riff without looking very hard.

Finding one that everyone KNOWS on the other hand.... well, only marginally harder. ;)

Cowboys From Hell Pantera

Breaking The Law JP
ACDC For Those About To Rock or Highway To Hell , TNT etc etc

thanks to all who gave great suggestions.....used most of them during the two night event. All went well, but the sound system was a bit tough to dial in.....no monitor up in the media booth, and you couldnt tell if you were blasting the crowd in the seats or not. Got it dialed in decently, and had fun with the gig. It was worth having the best seat in the house, and there was some great racing!

Pics didnt turn out well, due to lighting, but lots of spills and thrills!
