Hey Guys,

I was thinking about adding a question and answer section to ODJT. This would be more for questions that have a definitive answer and not really subject to opinion. For example does XXX wireless microphone have noise cancellation? vs What's are good songs to play for a 50th anniversary party?

Any member would be able to post a question but we'd restrict replies only to people in the verified group (25 posts & 30+ days as a member) mainly so that we have a better chance of quality answers from experienced people.

There's a neat little mod for XenForo that would allow the original poster or a moderator to mark one answer as the best answer. The best answer is linked from the first post of thread so future viewers can go straight to best answer. Over time we can build up quite a good library of Q&As that would help everyone.

Do you guys think something like this would be a good addition to ODJT?

Thanks,
Dan

I like the idea. I'm trying to think back on how I searched for info when I was starting, just a little over a year ago...

How would the questions be organized? How would somebody search for the question/answer they're looking for?

I think it might be a nice place for general info and the likes. Say for example, here's the links to Mobile Beat's Top 200 (not that I even look at it, but still). It would even be nice for product/manufacturer reviews, etc.

I have another idea in the works for stuff like that. ;)

This Q&A section would be for more basic stuff. "How to convert a WAV to MP3?" or "How to connect my mixer to my speakers?" Basically stuff for newbies that our experts here can answer off the top of their heads.

It would use the built forum search engine. We'd sticky more popular questions and just refer to them when the question pops up by someone who cannot be bothered to search.

It'd be more of a resource for newbies or people looking to get into new areas such as DMX. The idea is basically to provide a solid answer without so much of the nuts and bolts or debates that often happens among more experienced jocks.

One question asked. Only ten responses allowed. Thread closed. Membership votes on top three answers (1st place 6 points, 2nd place 4 points, 3rd place 2 points, responding in the 10 spots 1 point). After 6 months of Q & A, points are tallied. Winner gets the ODJT title of "Yoda of DJs", lowest point gatherer gets kicked in the Black Hole..

I was hoping we'd get tickets, like from Skeeball at an arcade ... then we trade them in for plastic crap .. DJ Bling.

For some of the questions, you'd have to be careful .. or put a disclaimer. Most answers are subjective .. unless you're looking for truly general answers .. as in 'How to convert wav to mp3'. The answers can't include specific instruction unless you're leaning towards a specific product. The general answer would be to open an audio editing tool of your choice, open the wav and export / save as mp3. For possible help with specific apps, become a member.

Dan, I still like your idea for a Q&A section, but if I had come to this forum a year ago, a "Beginners" section would have been more useful... someplace where articles can be posted on the things you need to know when getting started; (i.e.; Active vs. Passive speakers, types of gear, DMX vs. Automatic, etc.). I wrote an article about Cases, Covers, and Gear Bags on another site because I had no idea I was going to spend so much on cases and bags, and wanted to warn other newbies. There's not many places you can get all the info you need without searching all over the place.
