We turn down gigs all the time. Some people are looking to pay way less than we are able to do it for. I never take it personally or feel disrespected. Some people just aren't my customer. I wish them well.Haven't all of you at one time or another turned down doing a gig for different reasons? The pay wasn't enough, not the type of event you do or want to do, a venue you don't want to work at and so on. I decided not to do this event because the price isn't right. I simply didn't want to work all those hours for $250 regardless what I used. Like I said we've looked out for him long enough doing it for a cheap price year after year. I'm fed up with being the nice guy in this case and so are other vendors as well. Which is why they won't be back.
However, If we are within $50-$100, I'm going to look for a solution.
As others have mentioned, when a customer is stuck on a certain price, I'd let them know what they can get for that. For $250, they could get a rental speaker if they picked it up. For $295, we could dj any 2 hours with a small crowd before 4 pm.
I had a guy several years ago call me to do a picnic he was having in his parking lot and inviting all of his customers. He wanted to do it from 9 am to 7 pm on a Saturday. When I gave him the quote, he was shocked. It was 15 time what he said he paid for a dj the previous year I asked him why didn't he call that dj then. He said the dj got drunk and was awful. But he was still looking to pay the same price.
I said I'm sorry, but we could not even do a rental for that price. I offered a 4 hour price, but even that was more then he was looking to pay. I wished him well and hung up
