Like many of you, I participate in other forums. I was checking out another forum yesterday (during the downtime) and noticed someone new had introduced themselves two days earlier without receiving one response. I thought about responding but decided to wait to see how long it took one of the regulars to respond. It finally happened two hours ago... more than three days later. I don't suppose the new participant stuck around with that kind of a welcome. Some of these forums can be pretty clickish... with the regulars only interacting with each other. That's really too bad. I've never seen it take three days in here for someone to welcome a new DJ, and there far fewer of us than in that other forum. Let's not ever allow ourselves to be like that other forum! This is a great group!

Like most of us I visit there from time to time it's a different dynamic there all together. This forum was built on the idea of being different than the other forums and it's not that we haven't made our share of mistakes along the way because we have but we have tried to correct those mistakes and the mistakes others made to make it a little more "home" feeling here

The other forum seems they are trying to copy us a bit. They used to be very heavy handed in terms of moderation....Alot of the early members here were banned there or bullied and threatened by mods. We probably swung too much the other way we go to great lengths not to ban anyone here and it has probably cost us a few good members over the years. I see almost no moderation on that forum now. I reported a post a few months ago where someone was name calling on a regular from here I have yet to get a response

We do have a good bunch here even you Bob ;) Although we have less members we seem as active as or maybe even more active than them

One of their former mods who has since passed on labeled us The Island of misfit toys or something like that.I believe we were the toys who swam away from the island ;)

I think Softjock Rick said it best we are like a bar you come shoot the breeze occasionally there's a fight but it gets resolved quick. Threads go off track all the time here I think that's my favourite part of this place lol

I really Miss Rick somedays....

It's all comes back to the people. I keep pondering why I feel so comfortable here and at one other forum (ran by a buddy of mine) it's the people, personalities, interactions that make you and I feel comfortable here or at another forum. "Clicky" forums aren't welcoming and newbies aren't part of the click; They're either ignored or made to feel less important than the 'big shots'.

Last summer I registered for a forum a buddy of mine runs. We started BSing on a forum administrators forum (say that three times fast) and made fast friends. The topic of his board is virtual pets which just isn't my thing but there were lots of general topic type threads so I signed up. I posted quite a bit over a month or so period but never felt comfortable/at ease there. I realized that most of the member base is quite a bit younger than me late-teens to early-twenties and most knew each other from a game. I haven't posted there in quite a while. It wasn't that anyone was explicitly unwelcoming to me. The member base and I didn't have much in common and that the moderating team cannot do anything to fix.

Here on ODJT the vast majority of us are very passionate about music and that's a common thread we all share. If you keep an open mind, once you have common ground you quickly find something to talk about and make friends.

Well, I've been impressed thus far. I've only belonged to one other forum and, although I found some very good information there from time to time, some of the people there were peevish and very rude (including most of the moderators) if you didn't agree with them. As a newbie here I hope to fit in a little better than I did there. I'm just trying to figure out whos who and what to post where.

A lot has to do with the newbies intro itself. Anything rife with misspells, gross grammatical errors, and/or "an attitude" (+1 reason) , it is difficult to openly "Welcome" them. Sitting back and observing contribution and content is far less risky.

Not everyone warrants a Welcome.

Hate is so cruel .. We have equality and diversity in our professional disdain for others.

That's OK. There always is a place for the guys that couldn't hack a REAL MAN'S boot camp. :2ak:
I have to admit, Air Force boot camp was no big challenge... but you'd be surprised how many guys could barely hack the physical aspects in the July heat in San Antonio. For me, it was fun... well except for the sleeping in a dorm with a bunch of smelly airmen part! [emoji2]

I see we were remiss by not properly welcoming you to the board so welcome Wifedj and please tell us a little about yourself.
