ok....so ....i must admit... my app shut down once during my wedding Saturday... but let me explain

I turned it on at around 1:30 pm and put it in blackout mode...wedding started outside at 3pm... it stayed in black out mode til almost 7. the minute i clicked blackout again it popped right on and worked like a charm til almost 11.... and only then did the app shut down... within 30 seconds i was back on the app and the lights were running ...and ran perfectly til the wee hours.

So....all in all...im still quite happy with it...

My obey 70 usually needed to be turned off and one atleast once at a gig....so... par for the course

Yea, I think 1 re-connect is about average .. not ideal, but I'm willing to give them a few software/firmware update cycles.

i had decided to return mine. I did work with it at home and saw the potential in it but I was just too nervous to bring it to a gig. I didn't want to go into a gig already worried about equipment failure because of known issues. All gear can fail, of course, but for me it was a different issue going in wondering if "this was the time I'd be battling it all night long". I'm now using Soundswitch. Maybe it's the hard wired connection from computer to Soundswitch hardware that made the difference for my peace of mind. A little bit of a learning curve on AutoLoops and Scripting but overall not too bad. Of course Soundswitch has been out a lot longer and they've had to dial in the software and hardware. Hopefully Mydmxgo will be the same.

...and thanks to Ross for the helpful tips about Soundswitch. Much appreciated!

Haven't used mine live yet...too many issues.

First, some lights it doesn't work with well (kinta, kinta fx).

And then it's just, well, unreliable.

I had a school dance last saturday - figured what I'd do is keep some lights on my old dmx setup - the kintas, UV, and put the movers and pars on the myDMXgo.

So I got it working, but on my old setup I had duped addresses (one for both pars, 2 sets of 2 movers). Figured to make myDMX 'wave' and such work better I should set the addresses up left to right, so 6 of them.

NOTHING worked after that. NOTHING. Tried every version of restart...the tablet connected to the unit, the lights would respond when things turned on...but nada.

When I have more time I'll play more. I know dmx can be, um, frustrating.

My experience has obviously been less than stellar with myDMX Go however, I'll just add a comment that the problem doesn't appear to be DMX. It's the dang flakey wifi server built into that little box. Not sure if the radio is too weak or a software flaw but I wouldn't spend too much time on it. That thing has caused me a LOT of grief, spread out over a number of gigs.

i forgot to add.... when mine acted up...i was doing the "fast change" method between presets that steve spoke about with his issues... so im sure that added to the issue....ofcourse any app thats open and running for 10 hours straight would be hard pressed not to give out once and a while

You're probably correct that the radio gear is a good chunk of the issue .. I'll add the limited capability to recover from a lost or noisy signal is also to blame.

Makes you wonder why they never offered wifi AND and hard-wired connections.
But it does make me glad I never pulled the trigger on it.
Hopefully, by the time they straighten it out, I'll be ready!

They do have hardwired (USB) but the best control tablet (iPad) doesn't support it that way .. can't say that is a MdG issue .. it appears to be an Apple limitation.

And that hard-wired solution doesn't let the tablet run off wall power, only battery. You know, on the ipad, I have an adapter that let's you connect power and a lightning output. I may have to try that and see if it'd be possible to do hardwire with ios.

The Android power issue also isn't a myDMX Go issue .. it's an Android hardware manufacturer issue. I believe there is a tablet that has separate power and USB ports.

If you do get the iPad to work hardwired (either direct or with the camera adapter), let us know.

Hadn't really thought about until this thread but I picked up an adapter a couple of years back that has dual lightning sockets as well as 1/8" for audio. Not sure if that would work but I don't see why not. Sure would be nice. I love the app interface, just hate the flakey crap wifi.

If this unit was hardwired...it would be the ultimate in dmx solutions... i mean...its great for me as is...but the reliability of hardwire would take it over the edge.

Maybe one day.

You'd think the basic version would be hard-wired...
and the wifi would be an upgrade or an add-on.
Or...if the company would financially benefit from not offering a hard-wired version...
I could understand.

I guess, since it was designed strictly as a tablet controlled app and not all tablets have a wired option, it makes sense.

I seem to recall when I first got the app, free, I had no wireless hardware and there is a wired option...maybe that was using my sushi ..it can go from usb to dmx cable. Been a while, can't recall.

I use the donner wireless wifi and had the transmitter quit on my, someone here recommended a better option and it's MUCH better and more reliable.

So yes, the wireless may be an issue...

I use wireless for my photography and have issues - supposedly the flash (canon 580) gives off some form or RF that AT TIMES interferes...antenna orientation, distance, etc all seem to be variables in this scenario.

And I have 2 wireless mic setups. The cheaper one will at times have issues on one channel. It's vhf I believe. Not sure if it's a venue thing, something I"m running, too close to some cell tower or the kitchen's microwave...LOL.

And what about 150 cell phones in the room? With bluetooth and other communication protocols. Toss in god knows how many other wireless networks (cameras, POS systems, etc). I've pulled up 10, 12 and sometimes more networks on my phone at times. Noise and confusion? Sure.

And way too often after 4 hours of changing programs I will have a fixture or two get 'lost' and not respond or respond oddly. Reset/restart fixes it, but I don't like bringing down the lights to do that during a gig.

The more common thing is at weddings - all works, the dmx is on and works, but is blacked out for 2 1/2 hours (cocktails and dinner) and then won't start up without a restart. Not always, not often...but it's a PITA when it does occur.

I need to spend some quality time on it...but alas, i ignore it till i need it, then don't have the time. This week is nuts and next week is about the same - senior pictures are in full swing, meeting a bride, a halloween party and 2 school dances, plus trying to get the house, farm and cars ready for winter.

I can't say that I have ever had any problems with my light controller! It has served me well for 13 years. Oldest piece of equipment in my arsenal! ...I believe the most reliable stuff has been around for a long time, and is basic. The more technology that is put into things, and the more that can and do go wrong with them.

ADJ makes a version that is like $32.95 or so. Same thing, but probably with cheaper internals than the older units had

on and off. I guess if that's what you want.

I love dmx - I have about 10 programs I run - sound with some lights, sound with others, 3 slow dances, 3 more dance programs, plus all red, blue, green - for school dances the color of the school works well, all white for bridal dances, UV and laser (3 of them) plus a strobe and all on/all white.

I'll never go back to on/off switches.

I need to come up with a faster setup for the lighting though..for weddings it's 15 min, no big deal. For school dances I take a truss, movers, UV plus the wedding stuff and sometimes more...setup can run an hour or a bit more. Mostly wiring it all.
