Up Lights - Get them in white or black?

Interesting! Yeah, wouldn't need wi-fi. So that begs the question. If you're just using a Donner Dongle in the DMX-in...do you even need the "wireless" fixture. I'm assuming that's the one with the built in antenna. Another question maybe you can answer (or anyone for that matter). If you use a mixture of Donner Dongles and these chinese fixtures that have a built in antenna for wireless, can you even do that (i.e. mix and match antennas like that)?
You either don't need wireless DMX or you don't need the Donner (though without wireless DMX, you don't get a battery) ... the wireless is supposedly the same specs as the Donners. There is even a button to cycle through the 7 Chinese wireless DMX bands.

i wonder if it is color coded like the donners or do u just have to experiment to find a match?

Good luck finding a user manual :) .. 1 button, 1 LED, so I suspect it's either coded by color or by number of flashes. Whether the color sequence matches the others would be a question for the mfg.

Hey Ricky,
Have you noticed if the price on the chinese lights has gone up at all from since you first considered buying them? I know you've been looking at them for a while. I wondered if there'd be a price impact due to all of this trade war stuff with China.

They actually went down in price.

I inquired about 5 months ago. They were $82 each light plus shipping from China. Now, they are $80 for each light. So they went down $2 each. Shipping was a lot of money, but considering it came in like 4 days from China, I would say it was worth it. Shipping was $277 for 10 lights. Total price was $1,077 for 10 lights.

Signature was required for the DHL shipping. Luckily, I had someone at home when they arrived who could sign for them. I have a feeling there is a cheaper shipping option, but I did not ask. However, any cheaper option would probably take considerably longer.

So, did you go with WHITE or BLACK?

(if you answered the question, I apologize for not seeing it)

I went with Black. I wanted to go with white ones, but as Rick mentioned. Inter mingling different colored lights just won't look good. I will just keep all mine black.

Did you get the ones with built-in wireless-DMX or just DMX ports?

At $100 per fixture, do you think you could have found something here equivalent or better?

Wireless DMX. All the features that are needed. They are identical to Rainbow Smart 2 Minis. Only difference I can tell is that the menu screen is laid out differently, and looks a little different. ...Actually, the menu screen seems to look like the menu screen does on the Rockville Best 60 up lights that Rockville is promoting now.

Hell No.

Rockville has the 9x18 watt up lights selling for $159.95 online. They just came out with their line up maybe 6 weeks ago? That is the next best lowest price light. After that, it's Rainbow at $179.

I would have to carefully examine the lens on these lights, and compare them to Rainbow's lights. There MIGHT be a difference in the lens on top of each LED. These ones I got I noticed the lenses look ever so slightly different. But, testing in my basement, I don't see a difference in the output. When I go to storage next time I will pull out the rainbow lights and Examine both in detail to see if I notice any visual difference between them. Weight wise, These lights from Both lighting MIGHT weigh just a bit less. They feel about the same as the Rainbow, but I am thinking they may weigh a few ounces less just picking them up, but pretty much the same weight.

I'd be curious on color convergence ... any haloing of colors .. probably best noticed when 2 colors are mixed (say 100% red and 100% blue). The lens design would make a difference.

Also, were yours 9x18 or 6x18? You mentioned the 9x18 but the Smart 2 Mini is 6x18.

Mine are 6x18. I was just comparing to the new ROckville Lights that are 9x18 watt.

Looking at the picture...The lenses seem the same as the ones on that Rockville light.

When I get my rainbow lights out of storage, I will put them side by side in the same color, and see if I notice any difference in coloring, or beam angle.

I inquired with Both Lighting as well. I was going to try purchasing two fixtures to see how they are. The total cost with shipping is $250. They said they'd take paypal for a small order like that....Then they asked for my paypal account. This is where it got weird for me. I guess I've never purchased things like this (especially internationally) where you can't simply go onto their website....add things to a cart and pay. Everything is all secretive. There are no prices liste. You have to "inquire" about lights and get an email response. Everything is done through email. Seems weird. At the very least, I assumed she'd send me a link or an invoice with a link where I could pay. I'd be using Paypal credit. How did you pay for yours? Just a credit card number via email ??? That's not secure at all. Sort of creeps me out but I know people have purchased from them.

So for anyone who has purchased from Both Lighting, how did you pay for the lights? You can't go on the site...add to a cart and pay on a secure site. Trying to get some insight since I'd love to try them out but the whole "via email" process seems odd to me.

They mentioned "Send me your paypal account" as well which was weird to me. I assume they say that because they are Chinese. I gave them my paypal email address and just asked them to send me the invoice so I can pay. They did that, and I paid with PayPal.
