Jeff : Again, my thanks. Going out for cocktails and din-din with my bride. Tackle it first thing in the morning.

Very helpful and much appreciated, to you and Bounce.

Jeff all I suggested was change the extension - then what ever you do with it is your worry

I have been able to do a lot with mpg's more than trying to deal with vob files
it fools the software into thinking it is a true mpg anyway I am back to work

TBO Dennis,
I have made the change of extention on occassion, and it's caused nothing but grief. VOBs changed to MPG with the simple extention change would not close in media player without crashing it, and mpg files converted to VOB extentions wouldn't play in PowerDVD, so I would caution the use of this method as unpredictable in some cases. There is obviously some differences that throw a wrench into the system.

no worries jeff - I must have something installed then

oh well..

have a great day all

How much hard drive space would a 1500 VOB files take up anyway. I would assume each VOB is about 3 minutes long in MPEG that would probably be 1 Gig per video right?

How much space would converting them to mpeg-2 save?

Main Event, It isn't quite a gig a minute... at that rate your dealing with uncompressed video right there, and mp2 is definitely NOT that. I think it is generally about the 3/4 size of an avi. It has been a while, so it may be different.

So your looking at a 400 gig hard drive with room to spare. Interesting I'd thought that the .vob would be more.

You should be good with 400 but be sure to leave room for future use. I've got 2 250GB drives and another 400GB drive for videos. Eventually I'll upgrade the 250's.

In total I have 1,200+ GB on my machine between video, karaoke and mp3.
