Apparently Mix is a more discriminating dater than you are.[emoji1]... And I don’t mean that in a “racial” way.[emoji1]

SOooooo.... Back to the topic... What’s Next???... For me???... Maybe nothing. I was getting ready to buy that Denon MC7000 today, then I thought; “WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING???”[emoji1] Where am I gonna put another DJ controller???... Where am I gonna put another DJ System; especially one that promises to be LARGER than my current systems??? I need to get rid of STUFF. I have too much stuff. I’m not a hoarder yet, but I’m gettin’ there. I gotta STOP until I can sell some of this STUFF. I think that’s what’s next for me... selling all the DJ gear I’m no longer using and know I will never use. Gotta put it all on eBay and hope somebody as nutty as me buys it.[emoji1]

OK... now that I know that gear is gonna have to wait... What about SOFTWARE???[emoji1] Software takes up NO real physical space... so I could do software.[emoji1]

Actually... I’ve been thinking about what the next DJ software is. I really think, from all I’ve read, that Rekordbox might be it... Except not for the controller I want, which is not a Pioneer. I haven’t completely ruled out a Pioneer controller yet, but have been looking around at options. That brings me back to software. I was looking at UltraMixer Pro 6. Pretty new. Not much buzz about it, but I looked at this video review of UltraMixer Pro 5...

View: https://youtu.be/dD4trWdf9Es

... and WOW... There’s features in that software I really like. I only know one DJ who uses it, so not a lot of endorsements. AND... it’s pricey; $199 for the Pro version. That’s double the price of Traktor. It has one particular feature I like and have been wanting to use ever since I started, but is a little too complicated to use the way I was going about it. UltraMixer seems to solve the issues for me (more on that later).

I currently use DJay Pro on the Surface Pro I use as the backup computer for my Small System. Using that software with a touch-screen interface works OK, but I can’t really see myself using that software with my primary system. Traktor seems to be a little behind, but with that said, I also need to take a close look at Traktor Pro 3 before making any decisions. Still, I think UltraMixer has the potential to be what’s next for me in Software.

I need to get rid of my Alto, American Audio, Anchor Audio, and Behringer speakers .. plus some Crown mics, a few Sennheiser mics, my Neumann mic, some rack mixers and a bunch of other stuff that hasn't been used in a few years (snakes, etc.).

Before I go into the feature on UltraMixer Pro 6 that I like, there's another related issue. I like the new setup @djtaso is using. One thing about it that caught my attention is that he still uses portions of his old facade behind his new podium style DJ booth...

... The facade in the background has a function, but it also adds some presence. Here's what it might look like without the facade...

1540093879761.png

... Doesn't quite make the same impression. I think having something in back of a podium style setup looks better than having nothing behind you. Here's my concept with no background...

A facade behind my setup might look OK, but would serve no purpose the way Taso's does. So this is where the feature in UltraMixer Pro 6 comes in. From the beginning of my DJ business, I had the ability to project music visualizations on a screen behind me. I have software on my backup/light control/video computer, and a cable from my mixer goes into the input jack to provide audio for the visualizations. I also have a BenQ short throw projector. I've had this capability for 4 years and never used it. The software to make it all work well is a video mixing program, and it's just too difficult for ME to DJ and control the video at the same time. UltraMixer Pro 6 has visualizations, video, and slideshows built in, so I could use one piece of software to do music and video. So here's what my concept might look like if I put a screen behind my DJ podium...

... I like the idea of music visualizations, especially if I'm only running 2 moving heads and no other effect lights. Biggest drawback is having another object (the screen) to setup and tear down.

I've been looking around on the Internet at other DJ's mobile setups... Ya'll ever do that? I was watching this one guy review other DJ's setups...

... Always makes me laugh when I see some DJ reviewing other DJ's setups, but it's a good way to see what others are doing. Interesting thing is that there's not much I haven't seen somewhere else. We all seem to have similar ideas (or we're copying each other). Here's some of the setups that were reviewed/posted...

...Nope... That last one isn't Taso's. If you watched the video, did you catch the reviewer's comments about the Line Array speakers??? ... So maybe he kinda killed his credibility with that comment, making his review ranking pretty meaningless. Some of his suggestions were valid, though.:djsmug:

I saw that video, and yea it's sad to see how the majority of the submissions were absolutely herendous. I do know who the last one is... his podium is the one from hoerboard in europe I believe, where as mine is custom built locally. I too cant stand the speakers like that, but to each their own. A number of guys are going with that look now... at least around 8-10 guys locally. I think the white facade behind makes it even cleaner, but some may not need that behind them. I couldn't find that first pic in the video though, so not sure where you saw that, and I guess I don't know what the comment was about the line arrays. I know someone who has that dj table, but that's not his setup.

Barr has become something of a legend as a dj/travel vlogger and is getting a lot of great freebies from some big companies (im jealous) but he is actually one of the most humble djs ive ever encountered... if you watch his entire journey...u see his growth ....going from a club dj trying to borrow equipment from friends to do a couple mobiles for side money....to truely learning the mobile dj business front and back.... i admit i was laughing at his line array comment....but i guarantee in 6 months he will have a set and will acknowledge what a dummy he was saying anything negative...

His full set up now is gorgeous and one of my faves ive seen... its not goddy in any way...just sleek... hes got the Ape bars attached to his facade on the front and it just looks mint...

The only reason i think hes doing the set up reviews is because the large amount of djs demanding it...as well as the fact hes attempting to put up daily content...

Some of those set ups in the video were absolutely dreadful... either too little or too much... but still fun to watch

You mean this one?...

... Not so bad really. I guess it depends on personal taste. Maybe not so good for weddings, but maybe OK for school dances. I dunno???[emoji4] I’m really not much of a critic. I can usually see some good in every setup... Well, almost every setup.[emoji1]

I like it, actually .. replace the ADJ logo with a panel, add an inner wall to the 3 sections above the shelf and maybe some translucent coroplast to the insides of the lower section and it's a facade ..

I gives the "industrial look" .. some might like that. Might not be a good wedding look, but I can see it looking fly for other events.

Brian S Redd uses that ADJ mobile DJ booth. He had a custom made sign to put on the front board.

I think it would be a cool booth to use in a industrial setting, but outside of that I would not want to lug it around. The side sections fold in, and you can set it on top of the rest of your equipment

One thing with this is that it does not conceal your stuff under the table. 95% of the venues I frequent there is no where to place my bags, speaker covers, speaker
stands bag. All that stuff goes under my table 9 times out of 10. Sometimes there is a separate unused room, or a closet I can put this stuff in, but maybe once or twice a year I can do that. ...And I'm not one to go put all that stuff back in my vehicle, then take a whole 2 trips to bring it all back in when I load out.

So for me, a 5 or 6 foot table skirted just works the best.

I guess this booth could be turned into a facade, OR if you have a low enough facade, you could put it in front of the booth, but using a facade kinda defeats the purpose of this booth.

Brian is also an ADJ shill, so that doesn't help ..

I agree... It can be gussied up to look nice enough for most events. I’m just not sure it’s what’s next. I think that industrial look is more past than future... not just my opinion. I’m hearing/reading that in a lot of places. I like the industrial look, personally. I’m not a big fan of the scrims though either.[emoji4]
