Question to my seasoned friends in the video industry.
I did an event last September, the ceremony and reception took about four hours, however the finished product rendered to two hours on a DVD.
Yesterday I was approached by the groomzilla, asking for an unedited version of the ceremony…
I told him I would see what I can do? I am a complete rookie when it comes to video dealings and industry standard.
Your input will be greatly appreciated, and please no sarcastic and ‘common sense’ responses. Thank you.

...asking for an unedited version of the ceremony.
he did mention the fact that the ceremony was not "entirely recorded but it showed clips"...
Sounds like he isn't happy with the editing of the ceremony. Sounds like he was expecting the entire ceremony, unedited, on the final product.

I'd ask him if that was the problem and offer to re-edit the final product to include the entire ceremony.

Then again, do you even HAVE the entire ceremony?

How many cameras were you using?

All the video people I've seen use, in addition to their hand-held cameras, at least one stationary camera on a tripod, getting the entire ceremony. That way, they'll have captured the entire event and can edit the camera angles.

First things first, it doesn't appear that you are contractually obliged to provide him anything additional.

As to the rights to the unused material, you'd be better served asking professional videographers/photographers if there are any unforeseen consequences in providing the client with unedited material.

From a purely CS position, I'd follow Dave's advice, determine the issues, see if you can correct it without dumping the unedited stuff, and make him happy. If that doesn't work and if giving him would not expose you to any unforeseen, negative consequences, I'd attempt to make him happy by giving him the material that I will probably and eventually destroy.

hello,
i do appreciate your comments,

i will surrender the entire footage of the ceremony unedited and just as is. I don't believe I did recorded it all, and just as mentioned on this thread that is something i will do in the future, providing they pay for it. I charged them 800.00 so there is only so much leverage, there.

his mom also complained that i did not give them "all" the photos shot, (750) the contract called for 300 images, i gave them 400, so it may be just a matter of people asking beyond of what is given to them.

I agree with Rox but to add I would keep a copy of the unedited footage before I handed it over
