This is my first time on the board and only discovered it after checking my webstat links.
To those that have met me and have made statements here. Thank you for the kind words. They are appreciated.
For those of you that choose to believe the commentary of the all-knowing cynic managing DJTalk. I am disappointed with you for making a decision based on someone else’s character assassination. Especially, since you likely have never met me as the DJTalk moderator has not. If you have met me and have found you dislike me. I respect you for standing by your personal convictions.
In view of these assumptions regarding my character and fatal flaws I will provide you with my reasons for making the decisions that I have.
1.I am a FULL TIME DJ. I do not have a part-time/full-time job to support my DJ business.
2.I have a family to support and they are the 1st priority for me.
3.I do not place myself on some sort of holier than thou pedestal. I am just a DJ like you.
4.I am continually trying new and different methods of getting business, ethically. Every now and then, I manage to find one that will work well for a time. Nothing ever lasts forever.
5.Based on previous fees starting point, the phone, pretty much, stopped ringing. So, I adjusted my starting point on the webpage to stimulate the phone calls. Which in turn allows me to up-sell. I feel this is far better than the phone not ringing at all and never having the opportunity to speak with a potential client. And, as it turns out, I end up at or near my usual fees because I begin building a relationship with the clients and they understand the value.
6.I don’t judge you based on what you charge or how you do business. My only desire is for everyone’s success.
7.I have spoken in the past at Mobile Beat and several other conventions , not for fame or glory. I have done so because I felt I had information that I thought might help others in various areas for their individual success.
8.I’ve been in this business for over 30 years and I’ve seen the ups and downs regarding most aspects of the mobile DJ “industry.” There is always more and there is always less, you just pick the moment.
9.It is always easy to be a critic before you know the person you are criticizing and nearly impossible after.
Thanks for reading this.
I hope I get to meet some of you and for those that I don’t, I wish you success in the endeavors you choose.
Ken Day - Yes, THAT Ken Day.
