I started with WinAmp and have a soft spot in my career heart for it. Last time I used it was version 2.81.

So I went to the site, and attempted to purchase WinAmp Pro 5.56. Said the page was no longer there. I was able to grab regular WinAmp and an update to Pro but there was no Pro version to be found nor a portal to buy the license. Anyone have any suggestions?

So, you're saying I have to start using an actual DJ software? :djparty:

As the great Canute would say, you'd have to be an actual DJ to use actual DJ software ... :djsmug:

I do take a lot of guff for using winamp but really, I hate to hear this. I don't do any beat-mixing and generally let songs play full length. I use the auto-crossfade function and it handles transitions beautifully. The main things I like though is that it's drop-dead simple and it never, ever, ever crashes (although I have had a memory problem crash a machine before). At gigs, I always run 2 laptops and have both loaded with the major event songs. As soon as I start a track on the main unit, I start it on the 2nd. After the major event songs are over, I put the 2nd unit on a Sinatra piece thru dinner (looping the track) then put it on a hip-hop piece during dance (also looped). If anything should happen with the primary, I can just push the fader up on the 2nd. Back onto winamp, it's absolutely incredible at the sheer number of options you have on tweaking the configuration. Guess all good things come to end though. Wonder if VDJ is gonna choke my basic boxes?

iTunes works just as well as Winamp for many purposes.

If you don't need beat matching it can handle events just fine once you adjust your settings to your liking.

I don't keep my second laptop plugged in. If I had an electrical issue, I wouldn't want both computers fried....not that it's ever happened, just overly cautious I guess.

I have an extra player plugged in with all needed songs. Lately it's been my back up iPad. But I've never had to use it

If Winamp is working for you, you like it, and aren't looking for software to do any more, then who cares what anybody else thinks.

I used to use Winamp with sax and dotty show hoster. Had some issues with it so I dropped it. I moved to karma with no issues. We don't do much karaoke any more though, just a handful of times a year.

I use iTunes because it's the right tool for my iPhone and iPad anyway, so it made sense to use it to manage my music. I also use it for times I am not actively DJing, and for straight music playback, it works just fine. It has auto-mix, has a free remote app (I can control it, add and subtract music, etc. remotely on an iDevice), and the playlists are directly readable on my VDJ and PCDJ (and Serato when I used it).

You can remove the iTunes Helper app (or stop it from starting). It's only needed for iPhone/iPod/iPad to check backup status and such.
