Would you have done the Grand Intro?

Pulled up at a multi room venue that I perform at quite frequently and I am well know by all the Banquet Staff Members and Team Captains.

While I'm setting up my system several banquet members tell me that the Banquet Team Captains were looking for me. First thing that goes through my head is am I late or did I forget something. I finish setting up and latter find out why they were looking for me.

There was a Mexican Wedding Reception taking place in the next banquet room and the B/G were ready for their Grand Introduction. The DJs they booked weren't there yet and the Mariachis that they hired were on break. The reason they were looking for me was so I could do the Grand Introduction for this B/G.

Would you have done it?

I think the bold is the answer to WCWD.... If I'm reading that correctly by time he found out why they were looking for him it may have already been too late for him to do anything by way of helping out wheather he wanted to or not.

So the question now is Cesar: If you had found out why they were looking for you in time would you have done the intros?

I've already provided the answer...

If the case was that they were too cheap to hire a DJ for the announcements while the band played, then no, they get what they paid for, and I would not have the time to provide them announcements. If however, the DJ was a no show, or late, and I was ready to go for my event, then yes, I would help them out.

Why was that so hard to determine from my post?

It appears to me that all you are doing is creating anxiety and distrust with the members here. Enough with the dramatics... Now, get on with it already! What would you do in this situation? What did you do?

I agree.

* If DJ was a no-show, I would consider it.
* If the DJ wasn't hired for this...No I wouldn't.

Question:
How many would step on the toes of a fellow DJ & do it anyway?

Hey Bill,

Is the DJ business the brotherhood of man...?
(Cue Three Dog Night - Family Of Man)

The worth folks, are always telling us that we are better than the common man (erm, DJ). We should boil them like lobster :sqerr:

Why worry about their toes, we're not going to eat that part anyway... :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

I would gladly help someone out if I could

As Jeff said, I would not do it for free if they didn't hire someone.

Jokers Wild the answer to your question is YES.

The only thing I would of been worried about and would of asked for some help on was if my Music Library was already at my system. I would of asked the Team Captain to have one of his staff stay with my music until I got back.

For me, my first question would have been, why not get the band members back who WERE being payed to perform and were already there, albeit, taking a break, but still, they clearly speak the bridal parties language clearing any language barrier that might have existed with me, they are already known to the bridal company, we should assume, and they are already set up, where as, I may have been known to the bridal party, and they hired someone else (lets face it, I might have given them a price and they moved away from me) I am in the middle of my setup and preparing for the people who DID hire me. OK, lets put a scenario there, I'm setting up, not complete, they want intro's, I agree, dad and the groom were out smoking because no one told them the venue was out looking for another dj to save their day, 10 mins pass, now my bridal party is starting to arrive, cocktail hour should be running, so NOW I tell the venue I have to go, so sorry, AFTER they have proclaimed to the other wedding party that they have saved their day? Talk about a bad taste!!! Sorry, my obligation is to my paying clients, while I would love to have saved the venues day, if my name were the first name they thought of in their crisis, maybe it should have been the first name they recommended when the bridal party called and booked the venue. Just my 2 cents

I figured it out!

Go to the profile of the person you wish to ignore. To the top left, you'll see "send message" and "user lists". Last selection of the drop-down menu for "user lists" is "add to ignore list".

Voila!

Folks:

Just one point before you put Cesar on the iggy; I've known him from another board for a while now and he really means well. He really wants people to think and there's nothing wrong with that.

If you don't like his approach, you can always skip his post but give him a chance.

I gave him a chance, in fact several.

He seems to view himself as "above" participating, while claiming this and that about his experience (but only in vague terms), never answering any direct question (even though has asks that of others), and implying in a condescending manner that "his job" is to make people think, not actually BE a person himself.

YMMV.

I have talked to EEEZEE who is on this board and on the WE DJ Board.

On DJ Chat I had lunch one time with the guy that was good with the technical questions concerning equipment. I forgot his name but if you say it I will recognize it. Lunch was a little disappointing so I am selective on who I will try it again with.

Why can't I just be the other guy on the other end of a Key Board?

Call me insensitive, but I'm not gonna play this game.

If your not comfortable engaging with your peers, then why even participate? Why even start a participation thread? A thread that is left half baked?

It's not a wonder, IMO, that your lunch was disappointing. You were in it for you and you alone. What did the other guy walk away with? I hope you bought lunch fo him in exchange for his advice.:sqerr:

I have had lunch with many DJ's. I eat lunch just about every day. It certainly makes sense to eat with someone in the same business, or a past or potential client. I learn things everytime I have lunch with anyone. Hopefully, the other person may find the lunch beneficial for them.

Occasionally, I have had lunch with someone and i've learned that this person is probably not someone i'd want to do business with or spend more time with. But I still would call that a successful lunch. I still learned something. But more often, it's created frienships. Some very good friendships.

So, if anyone is ever in the Cleveland area and would like to go to lunch, feel free to give me a call.
