But is there any reason other than beatmatching that I might want to get more than the silver package? I absolutely love the way OTS mixes ( not beatmatches ).... Of course, my only experience came from before the latest upgrades.

Also, and maybe I can find this on their site, but if I pay for Silver, what does the license stae as far as being able to use it on more than one computer? I am a single op... nobody but me will use it.

Thanks!

Papa - As far as I know...1 pc...period..
Check out OTS Boombox......all the features..$99.

Can anyone tell me...Will Boombox allow one to cue?

See, that is a deal breaker....

Boombox will not allow use of dual sound cards, or cueing, so no musicguy, it won't.

I use the pro version of Ots, and am configuring my tracks for beatmixing and video as I sit here.

Ots only allows use of one Ots Occurance per license. Depending on the package you purchase, you can run, as in my case with 5 licences, all on one syste, or on severate machines. Running multiple instances will allow you to run multiple locations or rooms from one system if necessary. Great for venues with multiple rooms run from one location. You can also use them as stated on seperate machines as I do. Really depends on how you purchase, but only one instance per license is allowed.

Check out the differences in features here...

Papa - OTS Turntables Silver gives you all the basic features, including cueing (459.00)
It does not allow for directory browsing...essentially you have to create a "waitlist" by adding to the "playlist"..
More cumbersome, but relatively easy...It would work great for any situation where you could create a playlist and let it rip.....

Maybe I don't understand. I can't add to a playlist on the fly, while looking at my library to find those songs?

No To add a song to Turntables (btw the silver version is....$49 bucks) you click an "open files" box ..navigate to the folder and select the songs..then click open...It adds them to the playlist.
You cannot drag and drop either...It's cumbersome...but for premade play lists, dinner music it would work fine.

I find OTS finicky on some files- it will not play them where other programs will....

Down load the demo...it's fully functional (just an OTS nag)

I was looking at the comparison charts, I may get the 1.15 version ( at some point for $179 ). It seems to have everything I want EXCEPT beatmatching.

Wait so if I stand on my head while performing will I then need another license as well. This seems a bit much. IF you operate in another room you need an additional license. Sounds like a money grab. Funny thing is its not going to cost OTS to give a bit of bonus to a single op when needing a rare second usage ( all it costs would be the time and effort assigning an additional key.) This is in no way a bash just trying to understand customer satisfaction and the limits or need for them.

One of the things i really like about OTS is the not crashing or stop playing. I had an external hard drive plugged in once. The power plug had come loose, making the computer unable to see the hard drive. Ots simply skipped over those songs in the play list it couldn't find and played the next one it could.

I am putting together a comparison between OTS and VDJ. VDJ has a LOT of great things about it. But if it can't play a song, or can't find it....it stops. But on the flip side, one VDJ license will allow you to put it on the back up machine.

Ots is very stable, and it incorporates some good ideas in it's music management method. But those ideas come with a cost: proprietary isolation.

The program is very stable, uses fewer resources, and the proprietary music file system works well. But, here's the engineering reality:

The proprietary file format combined with the single instance license and machine license, leaves you desperately lacking in cross-device backup options and emergency compatibility.

While MP3 is not the greatest format, it at least possesses this important cross-device and cross platform compatibility. MP3 media is "plug-n-play" in a multitude of devices that surround you nearly everywhere you go.

If you plan to use Ots professionally, you will need to plan for this weakness with either redundant licenses, rendundant machines, or dual formatted music sources.

Should your machine, software, or license be corrupted - you're Ots files will be useless until you can gain acces to another Ots program to play or export them.

If you're interested in the product I recommend you get only the older version of Pro. It has everything you'll need for basic comfort.

The added features of the new version aren't significant enough to warrant the purchase - and you can't utilize the karaoke or video features without purchasing additional softwares.

I own the full version, (less the karaoke and video). I like it, but will most likely switch products should I decide to add new features. Personally, based on the expereince with their product development, and lack of durable controllers - other than accepting any upgrades I'm entitled too, I would not do business with Ots again.

View from the audience:
"Auto-DJ" is an oxymoronn. There is a disc-jockey or there isn't. Auto-mated playlists are not DJs, and a beat-mix arranged by software is mathematics not art.

Your attitude is simply amazing Performance.
Personally, I think you've missed the boat, but you're convinced, so there's no changing your attitude.

BTW, What you consider the old version of pro.... It's called silver! The 1.75 version release was the very first version of Pro released, so there is no old version of Pro.

Papa,

I have upgraded to 1.75 and I love it. ABM doesn't work exactly the way I had hoped, but it is still awesome! Besided ABM, the upgraded version of Ots will automatically figure out the BPM's (which makes figuring out what to play next much easier). It allows you to add video and karaoke (which is huge IMHO). We have several licenses, one of them being a silver license. Many of us got by without ABM for years, so it's still an excellent piece of software even at the silver level.

If you want my opinion, I would spend the money and get 1.75 upgradable to 2.0, but that's just me. Good luck!

Got substance?

Just Fact!
If you're going to direct someone to a product it should have accurate information.... version 1.15 was the last version prior to Pro version 1.75, and is the last version of Silver. :sqwink:

Yes, what a storm of confusion that must have caused! :sqerr: Not!

The real issues worth talking about have nothing to do with the label.

Got substance?

It just never ceases to amaze me. Ots gets bashed for years (I was guilty a time or two ;)) for not releasing ABM. It finally comes out and they also have Video and Karaoke (2 things that they had totally kept under wraps). So far it has run flawlessly (haven't heard anyone complaining about its stability) and yet we still see people taking their shots. Enough already!!!! If you aren't happy with the software, sell your license and move on! If you aren't even running the software, stop posting! Ots 1.76 does everything that they said it would and for most Ots users, it has been well received.

If you aren't happy with it now, lets face it, you never will be.

More substance than you offered obviously...LOL

If you won't allow me to correct a minor issue, then you shouldn't be allowed to post it in the first place.

Let's not make an argument over it, and move on. It's obvious that you wish to do so, and I'll certainly not hold you back. There are plenty that would be willing to help you do so (As Kelly suggests) by taking your license off your hands if that's what you wish to do.

There is no need to be sore at me for keeping facts facts.

Do yourself the favor of losing your license now, as you'll just hold a grudge if you continue to hold onto it.
