Like Rob da Joker and a few others here we had one of those Wedding Wire Bride's Choice awards sent to us. So we figured, what the heck and sent out a few press releases to some of the local print media, tooting our own horn.

Sunday, in the Business section of the Illinois State-Journal Register they actually put something in about us winning the award. Of course they took our full page press release and shrunk it down to 2 sentences!:sqerr:

I was surprised that they even put it in as we don't spend any of our advertising dollars with them..

Like I said, it wasn't much, but it was free....:sqwink:

Following is what was printed:

BALL PHOTOGRAPHY AND DJ SERVICE of Chatham has won the 2009 Bride's Choice Awards from WeddingWire.

The Bride's Choice Awards recognizes vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility.

Did they notify you that they were going to print anything?

I did much the same thing sent it out to several fish wrapers and a few online rags.... so far I haven't seen or heard anything but then I don't subscribe to any of them either.

No, no notification....Must have been a really slow news day!:sqwink:

Rob, it may take a few weeks before it show up if it does. Rule of thumb for newspapers, paid advertisers first....everyone else can wait and see.....:sqerr:

Did you send out an actual, proper Press Release or just sent them an email?

Email.... yeah I know emails get deleted and sent to spam so it could get lost.... I just didn't want to waste .44 cents on something that was if'y to begin with.

Gotta spend that money to make that money! :sqwink:

A proper Press Release contains certain information that newspapers require in order to print your story. They also take them more seriously than a simple email announcement. BTW, you could pdf the release and send it. Or it is possible to do an email as a Press Release.

Forty Four cents? :sqerr:

Man, that IS pricey! :sqwink:

D'oh! You never said you mailed yours.... ya old goat!:sqwink:

Probably not too late yet.... I better get on the ball, hahaha ball get it, and print me some color stuff and mail somethin' in...

We actually did email the press release with a subject line reading:

Press Release Attached

That's the way we have done them in the past. A letter can get thrown away just as an email can get deleted.

The key is to know exactly who to send it to. Find out who the business editor is and send it directly to them if at all possible.

Make sure your press release is free of spelling and grammar errors.

Always end your press release with..

pound (space) pound (space) pound

So did you have to sleep with :)
