Weddings Pricing on your web site?

So no one in your area can charge more than 99/hour? NIMBY?

Two multi-op companies, one with over 25 years with their foot in the door and the other with around 12 years in the business are at the $100 per hour mark and between these 2 they pretty much have a stranglehold on the market around here. So after just a few years back in the business we're just one dollar an hour behind them, which I don't think is too bad considering we're not even at the 5 year mark.

I know of one single op that has a flat $600 fee for his bookings.

We have a broadcasting group here in town that is ripping the big boys apart as they are able to advertise (and quite heavily) their inhouse ass-hat djs.

No reason to remove your website. What you charge is up to you. I believe you could easily charge twice that in any market if you have the skill set to do so. No offense intended, I just think you are selling yourself short because I believe you have the skills.

Offense taken as this thread was not about "how much" is that doggy in the window, but do you put prices on your website. But you decided to steer Tim's very straightforward question into a pricing thread. Tim did not ask us how much we charged, please take a look at the Thread title.

Please don't make assumptions about other people's business unless you know all the facts.

Thank You.

I've always had my price on my site - $850 for unlimited spin time.

Now I'm builiding a new site where I will offer 4 packages ranging from $750 to $1500 for DJ services only (with a long list of add on services). Each package will be accompanied by a promotional video showing the set up and a brief explanation of what they'll get.

Personally, I'm tired of the sales pitch on the phone with every client that calls when they really have no idea of what "lighting scheme" or "professional sound" even means. I'm looking forward to refering them to the site to pick their own package, watch the video's and MOST importantly for me read through my reviews on weddingwire.com

So far this has worked for me.

My most sincere apologies for saying that I thought you were worth more than 99/hour. It won't happen again.

I'll bite -- I just got a fresh beer :D

Jamie, yer an arrogant SOB!

Before you get yer feathers in a ruffle, I'll make note that so am I :sqcool:

Problem with arrogance, is that if the person in question does not balance it with humility -- he becomes just an ass :)

What exactly this has to do with website pricing, is beyond my pea brain (which I'm sure you will comment on shortly). Feel free, as I charge much less then you, yet make much more

Sorry Tim -- I'm a New Yorker :)

Haha Touche Thunder! Who gives a Rats ass what I make and survive with. In the end you take care of your own. Otherwise shut the F up!! This topic is so benign!

I still have to laugh with my visions of a Porta Potty DJ taking charge of my elegent event.

It is quite laughable. We have tried to move away from the name a little, but it has been around for over 20 years and keeps following us. Some like it, some hate it, I am sure it has both earned us and cost us business over the years. A lot of our marketing now is towards our website and uses my wife and I's names.
ie www.MyHiltonHeadWedding.com - Jamie and Liz Bodie

Funny how things that are a great idea when you are twenty turn into not such a great idea later. All in all I like PortaParty and we have made it work for us - at least for the most part.

Still laughable.

Not to divert you fine folks from your regularly scheduled pricing wars ( :sqwink: ) but I love the website.. Who's singing what a wonderful world in the background? It's the first time I've heard it done by a woman and actually like it.

This isn't about pricing wars, like Dan had mentioned. I was up and back aobut putting pricing on my site. I would want to make my site as attractive as possbile for them to call and inquire.

I guess and this is just me for right now, putting a price on the site would detract the shoppers. If I put starting at $695, for example the average Joe Smith would not notice this. Especially if he cannot afford $500.

As my friend DJ Zac says "Your milage may vary"...
