I was working downtown this past Friday night. The night was going really good. I saw 2 cop cars pull up in front of the restaurant. The next thing I know I was told to turn off the music. The restaurant could not produce the entertainment permit. The city has 6 cops that patrol the night clubs enforcing city regulations. We were told no amplified music of no kind until you get a permit. The only music permitted in the bar was the radio or mariachi music. I ask "Why mariachi music?". "It's not amplified". The things you learn.

We didn't start it, we are just "feeling the pinch" the loudest. But sounds like the California budget crunch is causing the authorities to squeeze out revenue wherever they can find to do it. There are suddenly lots of inspections going on around in our area and it has operated by it's own law for decades. Hope the bar pays up and you aren't out of a job.

Last night all we heard on the scanner was people turning in their neighbors for having fireworks. Don't know if it saved anyone's thumbs or not. But the fuses seem shorter on everyone these days.

I'm wondering if it's a noise ordinance thing. :dontknow:

a bbq i went to was shutdown on saturday night because the crowd was too large on the street the cops said.the music they did not say anything about, just the gathering of people on the street.they wanted everyone piled in the back yard.only in NY,loud music ok,fireworks ok,people standing in the street illegal.

I was told that the permit is $600.00 for a year. I was amazed that they were using cops to enforce permits.

Dude, you been missing out -- check out Dan's littering thread... :sqerr:

what a waste of law enforcement........typical govt deal.

Wonder why most law abiding, tax payers do not support more law enforcement, school administration, and other wastes of money......?

They been cutting back (firing/layoff) the street cops. A few weeks ago they had a three day hostage standoff in the county. During that time they had only 6 police cars serving the entire county. I thinks its time to buy a gun.

Bummer Brother Ruben.... I trust you were wearing your pants when the gendarmes arrived?:sqwink:

Sorry, but have no sympathy for the venue here.

As someone who used to work closely with all shapes and sized venues across the country, it is totally up to the owners/managers to know what permits are required to hold events in your place.

Since when was it wrong for an officer to enforce the laws and regulations they are hired to enforce?

Patrick, I totally agree that they should have the proper permits.

Let's have the police do the job of health or building inspectors. Police resources
are at a all time low. Would you like the police in your neighborhood or checking
permits at clubs? To me its a waste of resources.

Here is the problem I have:

Many times on this (and other boards) I have seen people complain about police setting up "speed traps" in their town (which btw there is no such thing, if you are going over the speed limit while driving in your car, you are breaking the law, period). Now I see people complaining about the police enforcing regulations and ordinances. People complain about people being arrested for pot possession.

My question is: what exactly would you have the police do? Just sit around and wait for someone to get killed? Just be "on call" for when a crime is actually committed?

This would be akin to me clocking in and out in and out every time a guest shows up to check in or out.

If the police are doing something wrong or overstepping their bounds in how they do their job, then yes, they should be looked into. But when they are doing nothing more than their jobs, I see no reason to complain about it.

Patrick, Patrick,
That's why countermeasures and electronic warfare come into place :D:D:D:D:D Now I never worry about the speed traps :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

My only thing is there are so many fingers in the pie, it is hard to make a profit in tough times. Theh profits go down and the taxes go up.

We were looking at the job ads today and the starting pay for a sheriff was a whopping $13/hr. That is less than what I used to get for cleaning up dog doo. We thought no wonder they are so into stopping even people who are walking to check for drinking. The power trip is all that there is in it for them. Or else they get the $13 plus commission or sometlhing. Things are really difficult for everyone these days. But $13/hour to risk your life seems pretty low. And to have them doing inspector jobs is pretty strange. They are needed elsewhere.
