OK everyone, looking to buy a pair of powered speakers in the price range of these 2 speakers, the QSC 12's & JBL PRX615M (about $650 - $750 street price).

The use will be in small bars, maybe 125-200 people. No sub planned at this time.

I have not heard either one of them, and cannot hear them before I make a decision. Reviews are looking good for both of them. The QSC's have been out for a bit, the JBL's have just been released.

Anyone able to give me some guidance?

Dude,
If you are going to be in a bar you will need subs. I would choose the JBL PRX (Friend Just got four) as I have heard both speakers the JBL will give you more SPL. The PRX was meant to replace the JRX I believe.

I use 10" amd 12" both powered and non powered in bars all the time without problems!

I have been more and more using RCF 12" actives without subs for some apps~

:sqerr:You must be playing mainly in the Seniors Bars. With all my ammo, I am still needing more in my Bar. :sqcool:

damn noisy texans:sqwink:

Well on second thoughts maybe I should not be so critical..I sometimes forget what some folks in other States call Bars, here in Texas that would be the beer closet for the weeks supply of brew.:sqcool:

Nahhhhh! The scoops are fine its the tops that need changing. I am still waiting on Diaphragms from Ben so I can go back to my original 3 way High powered system

I own both, and hands down the winner is the PRX...LOVE them. The K12's are okay for certain gigs, nice to have RCA inputs and nice and small...but the PRX kicks their butt.

Are you gonna consider the QSC KW12?

Kris,

Can you describe the butt-whipping in a bit more detail? :)

Sure thing. The PRX sounds very "full" considering some of the plastic in the design of the box. It has crisper highs than the QSC and destroys them with the amount of low end. Like using the EQ boost on the JBL when I don't really need a sub, but when you pair them up with a PRX sub or two the system sounds perfect for 95% of the gigs we do. They are dependable, had a pair for 3 years now and zero problems. Had a couple dropped and had to replace the grills and plastic bases, very easy to do.

Not saying the PRX is the best speaker out there by any means, but for the money I really like them.
