But iDJPool.com is a professional music pool specifically targeting DJs, Radio Hosts, etc. I paid for thier premium account. Since I paid for the VIP package and they ARE targetting music professionals, the music should be properly tagged (even if the customer wants to change the tags later).

I guess you have been had then! Tell them about it so they can do something if enough people complain!

It was merely a minor complaint. I wouldn't say I was 'had'. I think you are reading a bit into it. Yes, I do think they should tag the genre, but for a one time $50, there are a lot of tracks and I am sure I will find many I don't already have. Once I have downloaded all of the tracks and my 'month' is up (technically I only get 14 days cause I started in the middle of the month), I will either not renew or I will switch to the yearly plan.

At the price of subscription your getting so much music almost free little issues are minuet. Also these pools arent about releasing classics although on several occasions Zip releases some here and there mostly disco or dance classics. They really are meant to be new releases for DJ review.

I agree 100%. The genre tag was my only complaint, and it's a minor complaint. I am not out anything, I am still getting my $50 worth. :)

I know the guy that owns/runs the pool (Dave Casto), as I have had dealings with him for the past few years. I could email him and tell him your concerns, see what he says... ?

Hmmmm.... seems that with my PrimeCuts Weekly MP3 Disc plus Download subscription.... I seem to get the same music with a little variation.... and the tagging is consistant.

Yep, we tag every song we release with the correct genre (including all the Latin genres). For anyone not happy with the tagging of what they're using now, feel free to shoot me an email and I'll give you a free sneak peak at our PrimeCuts MP3 service. Send the email to [email protected].

Thanks Jim - I looked on your site but didn't see a similar $150/yr download service. It looked like the monthly mp3 service was on disc only, which would put the availability of songs out a little too far with that distribution model. Did I miss something (if so I may have erred in my choice)?

Correct, no downloads yet with our monthly service. Over 70% of our subscribers get a weekly service, so that's why we rolled out downloads for them first. Monthly downloads will be coming in the near future.

However, not sure what you mean that a disc puts the songs a little too far out. Download only gets the songs to you about 3 days sooner than the disc. If you're only getting monthly music updates, it doesn't seem like you're in a hurry to get the newest music.

The other pool updates the songs weekly, so I can download immediately. With a CD, I have to wait a month to get the next one. The stuff I do only really calls for Top 40 and a little country and dance. I don't do enough to justify a $50 service yet. If your monthly service was a download immediately service, that would be the ticket.

my dealings with Primecuts and Jim have always been stellar. Unfortunately due to Canadian rules I cant have their service up here. Even when they had disc based offerings I always found I had many of the current radio hits before the local radio stations even a few months ahead. Now with the weekly and mp3 offerings Im sure its Golden and if I were in the States I would have been and would have continued to be a very happy Primecuts subscriber. It sounds like Jim is saying the monthly will be getting released via MP3 files and will be even better for those who dont need the weekly.

Here is my thing on the whole tagging issue....every single person here tags their music differently. Even when I was a PrimeCuts subscriber, I would still re-tag every disc when I got it because it is not tagged the way I wanted it. With all the instant tagging programs out there, this seems to be just a "complain for complaining sake" thing.

Though you really are allowed your opinion, I do disagree. I am not a troll. I do not "complain for complaining sake". Customizing tags to your liking is fine, but the genres really should be tagged when you purchase from a professional music pool. Would you complain if the dates were not tagged? How about the titles? If you pay for a premium service, you have a right to assume you get a premium product.

I love to customize my vehicles. The first thing I do is pull off the stock wheels and put on some nice wheels... I am not upset that the vehicle came with stock wheels and that I 'want' to change them, but I would sure as hell be pissed if it came with no wheels at all. I guess it has to do with the level of expectation.

Sisco, you missed my point. Genre tags are completely up to each person.

Is One Republic or Coldplay pop or rock? Is Billy Joel oldies or pop? Are the Beatles classic rock or oldies? Is Taylor Swift pop or country? Eminem hip-hop or rap?

I could on and on. Every single one of us tags artists into different genres. I could complain that many times PrimeCuts completely had different genre tags on artists from where I had them, because it was my individual preference to have things filed a certain way, just like everyone else on here.

But you can decide whether to re-tag it. We don't have the option. We said it was a gripe and not a show-stopper. And again, as a professional outlet, the assumption is the tags would be relevant to a wide swath of their customers.

I understand exactly what you are saying, but you do not understand what I am saying. By your logic, why bother expect any tags at all.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

Rick

Why don't you have that option? Am I missing something here?

We don't have that 'option', it's "Manditory". We can't just edit the few that we don't like. We need to edit ALL of them.. No options.

Ok, I am not understanding what the problem is then.....with programs like TagScanner and Tag and Rename, you can retag hundreds of songs in a matter of 20 seconds....am I missing something? Are the files you guys are getting from them locked to being retagged? (and I am not saying this sarcastically, I am just not grasping what the issue is)

The issue is there is no tag to begin with, so we MUST tag every one. We don't get to decide if we want to re-tag. If the tag was right, then there's a few minutes of time we don't have to spend.
