I was driving the van last Friday and got stopped by the police. They were nice enough to not give me a ticket but had me to call triple A to have van towed. I had it towed to a body shop to see about what they could do to secure the door that was hanging off the back. The owner worked his magic to get the insurance company to give the OK to fix the van completely. They allowed for 5k to fix the van.

I hope to get the van back later today as I got to cover the bar again. My friend has a job in Rockchester NY I think he said. If I don't get the van back I'll just have to use the rent a car the insurance company paid for to get the gear to the bar. It would be a lot better if I have the van to do it with because I can load the hand truck in the van. I can't put it in the car. I'll get it done either way. I'll kick butt as usual and get paid.

My friend said I've got to come up because of the bad night he had last Friday. He was playing in the bar and not a lot of people felt like dancing. He said in the beginning they danced but later on it stopped basically. I told him not a lot you can do about that. Such things have happened to all of us. Some crowds are just not up for dancing no matter how great the DJ is or how well a job they are doing. He's been playing in this same bar for over 22 years easily. He's a damn good DJ. Like I said it happens to all of us from time to time. Just so long as it doesn't happen too often. If it does then I would be concerned.

Not sure what magic the owner had to do to get the insurance company to cover your claim. That is what insrance companies are for. My question is didn't this happen a few months back. Why would you have not been on the phone with the insurance company the next day to get it fix? That is what normal and resposible business people would do.

Also all the jibberish you posted has to be just so you can hear yourself talk because none of it has anything to do with the topic.

I do have a question. How much of your music on your hard drive have you legally paid for? I know this will never be answered but what the hell.

Also I just wanted to say I woke up this morning and had hot chocolate in stead of coffe because I was in a different mood. My dog woke me up last night. I have a job tonight at a bar that has had 20 dj's over the last 20 years. Sorry had to cough.

Wait 'til it's time to renew your policy. The "magic" will re-appear.

5k to replace/repair a van door does sound a bit much.

I had a 2000 Chevy cargo van that I owned/used doing custom AV from 2003 - 2008. Someone pried the rear door open with a crowbar in a botched burglary attempt which tore up the latch and locking mechanism. Obviously the door wouldn't close so we used bungee cord to hold it together from the inside until we got it fixed 2 days later. It cost us about $1500 to repair patch and paint. We had a 1k deductible so paid out of pocket instead for filing a claim.

I don't know much about auto body repair but 5k is a bit much...You could buy a nice used van for a few dollars more than that.

Mix is this a new/er van? Did you get any other estimates?

In Mix's defense, he did post pics of the damage and it was pretty extensive and not limited to just the van door.

It's not just the door but the whole bumper was damaged and the other door too. Along with the fact that the panel on the side was completely damaged. I put a claim in months ago when I was hurt in an accident in August. Originally the bumper was damaged. Then the door got damaged. I was doing other work so that I kept putting of getting the bumper fixed. Not to mention I had appointments with different doctors too.

That's my fault. I don't know exactly what the body shop owner told the insurance company but he's in the process of fixing the van. I got to get downstairs to in a few to put wires in a tote to get ready for tonight. Bottom line pack up to start loading up at 6pm.

Hmmm...

Yeah, I would agree $5k is quite steep, having worked in my Dad's body shop, and grown up hanging out there.

But what gets me, is that you say you put in a claim back in August, for an unrelated "accident", and never got the bumper fixed -- now you want it included in this claim too...?

Isn't that called double dipping or something...? ;)

Mix what Claim????? Did that van door not get damaged in an alley or something when you were inside of a Bar doing a gig? If you had insurance then, it was not your fault (Even though the Insurance Company would not like paying anyway), so I think that by now that Van would be repaired less your deductible. What is the real story here?

Dude I thought you hated bars? Now I find it hard to believe that your buddy played in this same place for 22 years. He should be part owner by now.
It's not that I hate playing in bars. I just don't care to play in just any old bar. A bar can need a DJ and some places I just won't mess with at all.

3 big reasons why I won't mess with certain bars. First some are some rough places to play at. The owner/manager won't care who they let come in the place. Meaning some will let in a bunch of what I call the drama people. Customers that all they want to hear is gangsta rap music all night long and looking to start trouble. Second some places refuse to hire security. Some places on certain nights don't need it but some places certainly do.

The bar where I first met my partner at was a zoo. He was playing there and you could go to use the bathroom and someone might be in their using drugs. He told me one guy was standing next to him with a gun. The owner was too cheap to hire security. The drinks in the bar were too cheap and a lot of the customers who came in there were under age. The bartender refused to card all those people coming in the bar and I don't blame her one bit.

The last night he played there they had a super big bar brawl. My partner told me the fight lasted for 10 minutes. He said one person got thrown on the other side of the bar. A bartender got his nose broken with a chair. He said he was hiding out where he put the equipment. The police came there and I heard the manager tell the police a lie and said it was the DJ's fault. The police knew better. The cop said he's seen this too many times where a place will let in a bunch of young people. A lot of them under age and eventually all hell breaks loose.

The third and final reason I don't care to play in certain bars is because they are dead spots. The owner doesn't have a lot of customers coming in their place and want to get a DJ in there to work a miracle real fast. Some will give you only 2 weeks and if they don't see the results they want then you're history. For some places that's just not enough time. Especially if the place is not well known place. Some owners are either lazy or cheap and don't want to help the DJ with promotions to get customers in the place.

I don't mind playing in a bar so long as I feel it's a safe place and I feel comfortable playing there.

Mix .. I think you need to move. Maybe Iowa needs a new DJ. Less stress my man .. less stress.

Macho Man Mix's posts, are a cross between the movie Roadhouse, and Days of our Lives...

I think Danno should let Cesar back on, and put him and Mix in a forum together, where we can only read, and watch their posts to each other -- that could be fun...

No it's not stressful here. You just need to know what gigs to do and which ones to let someone else do them. Just because someone is willing to pay you to DJ their event if it's in a bar or a private event doesn't mean you've got to take it. Even if the price is right, the job may not be.

25 years of doing bars and clubs and I have never had to worry about that issue at any place I ever worked at.

Mix since you have no business should you really be picky when it comes to what and where jobs are and how much they pay? You maybe get 10 paying jobs a year now since you don't pay taxes on your work I guess it is nice side money. Nevermind what was I thinking.

Still waiting to find out how much of the music you have is legally paid for?
