I saw a pair of these lights on KPODJ.com and wanted to know what you think about them? American DJ Comscan LED system. They have a listed price of $425.00-$499.00. So let me know what your take is on these lights?

Mix, If you noticed, lately I have been refraining from piling on you as some do. However I must say that I think you are deserving of all the ill attention that you are getting. You hardly have a Gig and you are buying more and more equipment. Is this for your home or something? That is about the only place it will get used!

Mix must have cashed in on the retirement party.

Mix - these are pretty basic scanners (they sell for around $250), but you really need to decide what it is you plan to focus on .. you're all over the map.

You sure he's actually buying? I gather his gear inquiries are pretty much like everything else he spews.......just a bunch of hot air.

Canute right now we have 2 sweet 16's to do this month back to back Saturdays and some more stuff coming up in the future. Now what I do need to is to just buy the wiring for the lights tto hook up to the light controller I bought. That's it. I just spent my money on a very nice diamond ring I really wanted. I paid for that and it should be here in a few days.

Later today I've got to go to Western Union and pick up a retainers fee for the sweet 16 we're doing on March 23rd. So things are coming along and Ricky trust me these are real items being bought when I do buy them. I really hadn't bought a thing since I bought those powered subs. That was last year sometime. Just wanted to get feed back about those lights and since I've been told they aren't all that great but just average, what would any of you recommend?

Well, I guess if one were so inclined, it is easier to hide the paper trail from the taxman when it's all in cash or cash-equivalents.

I fixed that for you. If you want a quality Diamond Ring you go to a Estate Jeweler. Commercial Jewelers do not usually deal in the higher quality Diamonds as their clients are not so discriminating as buyers.

That's a bit stereotypical .. a graded diamond is a graded diamond, regardless of where you look. Estate Jewelers handle "used" diamonds (pre-owned) .. and yes that typically means a lot of custom and unique items. But for a typical 1/4 - 2 carat ring, a D-E-F & VSI+ diamond is what it is.

Who the F*CK pays their retainer by western union. You must have the classiest clientele ever
The person used to live in this state but moved down south and that's the reason for them paying the retainer that way. They will pay the remaining balance when they get here the night of the party. It's either that or have them pay by cc. So this is how they wanted to handle things sir. The big thing that should be taken into consideration is that they are paying us. That's what counts the most no matter how the bill gets paid. I really don't care how they pay so long as they satisfy the contract and pay us what is due.

I am not going to get into a pissing match about this I will only clarify a bit further. When I say Estate Jeweler I mean a specialist who buys and sells raw diamonds in many times direct from Antwerp. I know several people in the business. I don't know where you live but here in Houston we have Office Buildings that are known to house Estate Jewelers. You can't get in unless you have security.
Places like Kay Jewelers and Zales sell consumer grade diamonds which have far more flaws than the higher quality diamonds. BTW I see that among other things you are also a Diamond Expert! Be careful, you might be labelled as a "know it all". Thats all I have to say! ;)

That's not an estate jeweler then, which by definition deals with pre-owned jewelry for the most part. That's a direct diamond importer.

BTW .. there is no "consumer grade" or "professional grade" or whatever in diamonds. It's all the 4Cs .. and if there is a GIA or AGS certificate .. that's what it is .. whether from the importer, Kay's or K-mart. Now if you're saying that the lower end retailers stock more of the lower end diamonds .. that I don't know, but if you buy a 1 carat D-IF certified diamond .. it will be the same quality regardless where you get it from.

And I've bough a few diamonds in my time (and have looked at them as an investment hedge), so yes, I do know a bit about them.

Mix...could you rent some lights at a local vendor or through one of your organization connections (forget which group you're with). It may save you some dough and get you access to something better.
I just wanted thoughts on these lights. Now what would you say is better? The issue is not just about buying the lights but getting a client to spend enough money to justify having them to use at an event. What I mean is charging enough that it makes sense to have them.

Some potential clients don't want to spend some real money to book a DJ. What some want to pay is a joke. The thing I hate to hear is that we're in a recession. Big deal! I know things are tough for a lot of people but there comes a point when I've had to just say no because of how much they want to spend to book a DJ. Just not worth it to say we're doing another gig.
