Would you pay this much for a cellphone?

I knew that was coming and I was ready for that. You complain about things I have bought and I have a right to say anyone who pays $749 for a cellphone is crazy or they need to quit smoking weed. LOL.

Fyi, this is exactly the logic dj clients use when hiring someone less expensive. Why we can easily see why someone should spend more money on a good dj, if it doesn't really matter that much to them, hiring the cheapest makes a lot of sense to them. Same with phones, if you really aren't seriously using it, a cheap phone can seem like a bargain

I wash just talking about a cellphone. My sister said she was surprised I haven't bought a flat screen TV. I still got a big back TV and it's still working fine. Why do I need a flat screen TV? I get to see the same picture as I would if I had a flat screen TV. When that TV gives out then I will buy another TV. Who would be looking to impress?

I almost pulled the trigger when I found out to get the WWE network you need a certain name brand TV to watch it on TV. I could have gotten it on my PC but I wanted it so I could lay down and relax. That just wasn't good enough a reason to buy another TV just because of that.

You don't need a certain brand TV you would need a smart TV though. You could also do it with a Roku player or stick for about $40 on your current TV

wait until you see the price for the new iphones when they come out.the thing is they are selling an all in one gadget with computer, camera, etc so if you want it you got to pay the price.a $150 phone will not do the same quality as $800 phone.

With anything it's not expensive if you use it to make money or use it extensively. If you don't use it or it isn't making any money yeah it's expensive. I know when when I first got into video dance parties in the early 80's everything was crazy expensive, over 1K for video camera and then you had to spend 1K for a VCR. When the first so called affordable PC's first came out they were in $3500-$5000 range. So looking at it in that perspective $800 is cheap if you use it to make money or get your job done more efficiently . I chose a slightly different route, a affordable iPhone & a iPad 2 Air. 90% of my office work is done on the iPad both home & on the road. The only big issue I have is IOS doesn't run MS Access but I have a inconvenient work around.

The funny thing is what was the original reason for having a cellphone? To make phone calls right? They were designed so you could be outside and make a phone call without having to worry about if you had change for a pay phone.

Some of you nailed it. There are certain things you can do today that you couldn't do with a cellphone 5 years ago. So now you tell yourself you need the latest phone to do those new things and that's how they get you to buy a new phone. You feel you got to have the latest phone or you're lost without it.

Dr. Gunther spoke at my best friends oldest daughters High school graduation and talked about the time when there was no 24 hour TV. At a certain time TV went off until the morning when you could watch it again. When you heard a certain song playing you knew TV was about to go off and all you would see is a crazy image and a beeping sound till regular TV came back on.

He reminded us of a time when you used to turn the TV channel with a pair of plyers. There was no such thing as a remote control. And he went on and on. Now in this world we have become addicted to certain things thinking we must have it or life isn't worth living unless you have it.

I disagree. No one needs these things. But the reality is they make my life much easier and enjoyable. I can do all of my business, send out contacts, receive payments, make payments, deposit checks, responde to inquiries from any where. That way I can spend much more time relaxing, being out in nature and being with the people I want.

I enjoy sports. Watching a game on a HD big flat screen is night and day compared to a old tube TV.

No one should let technology rule their life. But If you use technology to make your life for enjoyable, it can truly be great

To you it's night and day but for me it's not a big deal. As long as it's in color and I can see the picture, that's all I'm worried about.

I bet you could save thousands if you bought a horse and buggy and sold your van or maybe churn your own butter that would save a few bucks too.

Times change. Five or six years ago everyone had a desktop computer and a cellphone these days desktops are the smallest portion of sales of computers because of smartphones. the way I figure it is if you dump your desktop and buy the smartphone like many do, you are actually in some money

The people working there told me this. They said I needed a LG, Samsung, Panasonic or Sony TV. I'm only going by what I was told.

And each of those (and others) sell this new fangled thing called a 'Smart TV'. You need to do research before you buy - so you know exactly what you need and exactly what to get. Don't rely on a sales person to tell you what you need - this is how you end up on the bad side of a purchase.

No when I bought that TV nobody heard of a smart TV. My TV is still working fine. How long before you will need another TV because the one you have now in mind is now obsolete?

If you are fine with your TV, I agree you shouldn't buy a new one.

But you can get a flat screen hd TV on Amazon for $88.

I have a hard time imagining you get more use from your other purchases than you would a TV for $88

I have a Smart TV (Samsung) from 2012, but the Smart TV tech was weak. Adding the Amazon Fire Stick extended the life of the TV for me, because it let me add features I want without having to replace the actual unit. Content hasn't really gone beyond 1080p in most formats unless you're absolutely a videophile and want 4K.

I can probably get another 2-4 years out of it before something else changes that I want to upgrade.

I've had the same TV for around 15 years or so. Never been in the shop and needed any upgrades to work. Of course things are made today to keep money circulating. They don't make things to last for 10,15,20 years any more. They make things so they can stay in business.

My first boss had a car that lasted him for 13 years. Only reason he bought a new car was because the old one had developed rust in the back and was told it would cost 3k to repair. So he didn't want to spend that kind of money for a car that old because he was thinking what if something major happened to the car? He decided it wasn't worth it. He bought a new car and while at the dealership the salesperson told him the car he was buying won't last for 13 years. 7 years and it would be time for another one.

Depending on how you maintain it, drive it and where the rust is, I could see that. During the winter, the chemicals used on the ground are not good for vehicles - and if you're not washing those chemicals off, it's even worse. That said, there are plenty of older (10+ years old) vehicles still on the street in good condition. 3k to repair rust on a 13 year old vehicle is alot cheaper than a new car purchase. Sounds like he wanted something new.

For many vehicles, the factory warranty is 3 years / 36k. Others have 4 years / 48k or 5 years / 60k. All have a powertrain warranty of the same or longer. You can add on to any of these plans. Most vehicles will easily go 100k without major issues - so for a dealership to say that a vehicle won't last 7 years / 84k - tells me they don't know much about their vehicles - and that I need to buy from someone else.

TV's aren't made to last because everybody wants everything cheap these days. The new TV's are throw away's you don't take them to be repaired and there wouldn't be much money in selling someone a hundred dollar TV and it lasting 15-20 years.

You probably paid a good chunk for that TV especially if it's over a 27. I know when I switched to the flat panel I didn't think the colour was as good (and I'm somewhat colourblind) so you probably have a decent picture and if you are happy all the power to you but eventually you will have to change Unless you move to Asia apparently CRT's very popular there

The time a car lasts is directly dependent on how you treat it and take care of it. when I was in the Taxi business I had one with over 750,000 miles on it and when I took it off Taxi in 2009 I used it for a personal vehicle for over a year. If I recall I bought it in very good shape at over 350,000. I sold it to a guy that wanted the motor for his truck. I told him about the miles on it and he told me he liked the way it sounds. I seen him around the start of the year the motor is still running 8 years later
