I may not be able to use 1 of my subs this Saturday.

I have an event to do this Saturday and I just got finished with checking out the room where the event is to take place. The room is a good size room and I do need a sub in this room. They have an elevator which is great! Also a stage where I can setup and play from.

2 issues with this room. There are no working outlets on the stage. So you have to run an exstention cord to get power and the door to get into the room is small. So I don't know if 1 of my 801p subs will fit through that door. I hope so. If not I will just have to go with the powered tops. I just love that there is an elevator!

Just had to share that and no beating me up about getting rid of the Yamaha subs. They wouldn't cut it in a room this big.

Why wouldn't they cut it? Subs are normally used to augment the low frequencies on the dance floor. If you have a HUGE dance floor, like at a prom or school gym, then you have to cover a LOT of area. For a normal event, however, you're talking coverage out maybe 30 feet and almost any quality 12" or larger sub will do that.

Covering the mid/upper frequencies are different if you need to cover the whole room for announcements and such .. don't need sub frequencies for that.

In fact, PLEASE take them out. I can't stand to hear that flappy cheesewhiz sound on the bottom of the vocals for another second (like at church, every Sunday, for as long as I've been telling them to turn the subs off after music; what, five years?). Oh, sorry, venting out-loud again.

I did a gig twice a year at a Motorcycle Hillclimb...playing pre-show music for a couple hundred people on a huge field.
I had nothing more than a 300-watt amp and two passive 15" JBL speakers.
Never used a sub.
Never really needed it.
Granted, it was background music, but I think you would survive without a sub "in a room this big"..

My brother has been a DJ since 1991. He has never owned a Sub. He has only borrowed a sub from me on maybe 4 big gigs that he needed a Sub for...and I gave him a 12 inch Sub.

I deejayed for 8 years without a Sub, and when I bought my first Sub, I only brought it out on high school dances or very large weddings. Most weddings and mitzvahs back in the day were done with a QSC RMX1450 amp, and a pair of 15 inch JBL speakers.

I have a prom this Saturday....35 kids, and 35 or so adults...70 guests in a fair size room. I'm considering leaving my Sub home for this one. I haven't decided yet though.

I didn't use one for more than 20-years.
To be honest, the JBL 15's I had provided plenty of bottom end.
I recently bought a pari of the EV ZXA1 12" subs....
and I only use them as often as I do, because I switched to sub-poles to support my tops.
But I really don't need them for 90% of my gigs.

Did you measure the door, or are you going to show up with the sub and guess?

I can't get access to the room before the event. So I will bring the sub and hope for the best. I too for years didn't have a sub. That's why I first bought a pair of the JRX 125 speakers and later on bought the Yamaha S215 speakers selling the JBL's. I used those speakers to make up for not having a sub.

You were just there......

What part of "you were just there" didn't you understand?
I understood what he said and I had never been there before and I don't carry a tape measure with me to see how big a door opening is. The person who was there won't be back there till Saturday which is the day of the event.

I also found out there is another event there before the one I'm doing. So instead of being able to load in at 4:30, I have to wait till 5. The event starts at 6. So I have to put a rush on getting things set up. I hate that but nothing I can do about that.

You have hands and feet you should be able to take a pretty good guess at what 23 inches looks like especially if it's a concern

You all are slipping. No wise cracks about me wanting to use more than is needed thinking I'm looking to impress the crowd. LOL.
