    Karaoke Setup Suggestions

Couldn't find the "Edit" button. I would add that you will probably need more than one mic, especially with kids, who like to sing in groups. I believe you can get a GTD Audio ( thanks again, Dr. Zinc!) 200 channel dual UHF that many of my singers think sound better than my Shure SM-58s...

    Karaoke Setup Suggestions

Just a couple of things to think about: 1) For a cheap setup ($400?) I would suggest the following for THIS GIG ONLY, not as a permanent solution: You already have an amp and speakers. You can get a decent CD+G player for well under $200. This is not just to give you the ability to...

    Looking For A Track

I have been desperately trying to find the version of "I'll Always Love You" by the male artist that was heard by WH's character in the movie "The Bodyguard". Of COURSE I don't know the artist's name... Any help?

    Lightweight and LOUD

I second Maestro o the FBT Maxx 14as. ALL of their Maxx series is extremely lightweight, and sound like speakers larger than the size being used- and include built in suppressors. I'm an EV guy for normal stuff, but I can't think of better speakers for your purpose. Believe me, you will have...

Bar & Club Hearing more about BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, etc..?

I've got venues here that don't want to deal with them on PRINCIPLE! Hard to believe but true. They figure that artists' groups should pay their artists what's due them without having to be sued by them. I get that, and agree with it. However, these organizations have managed to garner enough...

Anyone here using PCDJ Red VRM?

Though I'm disc based, I did use a lappy for house parties for about a year way back. I used the original PCDJ/KJ Red, and it filled all of my needs quite well, and was extremely easy to use. Then the lappy crashed, I tossed it, and with a flawed backup, I didn't feel like re-ripping. All...

Why do some put down others for not being a computer DJ?

Aren't you glad that I was off-forum when this thread was current?

Bar & Club Hearing more about BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, etc..?

I was wondering if anyone outside of my area has been noticing more activity from these so-called "artist organizations" ( you know, the ones the artists have to sue to get what is theirs?) around your venues/bars lately. They seem to have upped their pace dramatically in my area, and I was...

If you own your DJ company, then it's success is entirely up to you. Deal with that any way you want.

Bar & Club I got a bar gig this Saturday.

Your are correct, at least partially. I should have been more clear. Of COURSE the venue should promote as well! The thing is, a DJ simply can't DEPEND on them to do so. Keep in mind your own words: "Why should i do all the promoting of a place that i don't own?" Many venue owners feel the...

    Looking for free advertising online.

Hooool' on there a sec, Babalooey! While free listing sites are easy to find, you should be careful. Sites like 800DJ and others may allow you to list for free, but there's a hitch. If someone sees YOUR listing, is interested in YOUR services, and submits a lead, chances are you will...

Bar & Club I got a bar gig this Saturday.

From your own post: " If the DJs, who are working extra to bring in the patrons, are getting paid extra then it is worth it!" In other words, DJs who DON'T bring in NEW patrons or revenue AREN'T worth it.... DJ's who don't promote their own show, and bring in no NEW revenue or customers- and...

Bar & Club Building a crowd - spinoff from Joe and Canute

    1) Ok, so we have a brand new night with a brand new DJ. The restaurant pays the DJ, and.....no one shows up. Instead of the DJ creating a successful profit base, the venue LOSES money on the fee. As a business owner, how long would you keep that DJ? Now, if a DJ were to promote him/herself and...

Bar & Club My First "Real" Karaoke Gig

I almost hate to bring this up here, but since Steve is newer to karaoke, I think I should: The karaoke business has entered an extremely litigous time. Though you shouldn't run into any problems at private clubs like an Elks, if you plan to work public bars on a regular basis, please make sure...

Bar & Club I got a bar gig this Saturday.

Assuming that the bars in Houston's area are willing to operate that way I would have two questions: 1) If the DJs there are only entertainment, any decent DJ will do. What is the incentive to pay YOU more than anyone else if you are not adding to the bar's income in any real measurable...

    Same Library For Multiple Systems

Wow, these debates are going on here as well? Here I was thinking I was taking a break from them on karaoke forums, where they are rampant- especially because of the added lyrics display. No rest for the weary..... For the record, I agree with Proformance to the letter.

Bar & Club My First "Real" Karaoke Gig

As for the mics, I HIGHLY recommend those GTD Audio mics. Dr. Zinc recommended them to me and I gave them a try. I had been using mostly Shure SM-58s at that time. Almost to a singer, I got huge compliments on the GTD, most saying they liked the sound better than the Shures ( BLASPHEMY!)...

Bar & Club I got a bar gig this Saturday.

I'm from NJ, and Houston is correct. Properly marketed, you can and do get paid more here. Yup, there are certainly "dime-a-dozen" DJs here that are just that- no reason to be one of them. I play bars, and have also been an owner. It is a myth that bar owners are cheap, and won't pay what you...

Troubleshooting A Problem At A Gig.

Completely backed up for hardware, but the fact is I can figure out and fix just about anything on site. I carry a fully equipped electronic repair kit.The only backup I ever had to use was actually on the work space already. I use two single single drawer players instead of one double or...

    Youth Karaoke and DJ Night

Go to www.kjpro.com/browse/ Check Karaoke Kurrents and Fastrax for new releases. That will give you an idea of the newest songs being sung. However, unlike a club where you know the general preferences of your regular singers, you NEVER know what will be popular at a private event until...

    Karaoke Software.

Pardon my disc-based Luddite self, but another suggestion is CompuHost. A LOT of folks around me use it, and it does all that was requested quite well. I am under the understansing that it will even recognize LDs if one wishes to convert them. Just another suggestion, not endorsing over any...

    Wireless mic recommendations?

Dr. Zinc turned me on to these quite awhile ago. Mine are used for singing, of course. Singers who have been using my Shure's for years tell me how much more they like these mics. IMHO, the best UHF mic bang for the buck.
