The client is NOT the artist. You're right .. in an art form, it's the artist's vision that comes through. Val and Rick are catering to the client's vision .. how dare they.
But I again acknowledge that we each may have our own standards.

The client is NOT the artist.
So you wouldn't edit the clients lazy eye out as Rick's customer REQUESTED? Then you are playing God by telling the customer what is right or wrong...
Actually, I'd argue, they are. The client is the one who is designing and bringing to fruition, their own vision. We, as vendors, are simply being used to facilitate and create that vision.
I would absolutely decline the request, and I would be acting out of my own personal integrity - not as God.
He is perfectly free to find someone else to do as he wishes.
We did our best to smooth these imperfections... in order to give them false memories...
I have never measured or perceived a customer as imperfect. When our fundamental perception of both the person and my role is so out of agreement that is sufficient cause to decline the job. I don't fix people.
A person who cannot acknowledge the beauty in their own self, denies me the beauty of honest work.

It's not about ME judging them, it's about THEM judging them. To turn down a customer because they have low self esteem, or are self concious about some physical mark, because they deny YOU anything is way out there Bob. Way to make it about you instead of the customer.
No, it isn't.
If you walk into my office claiming to seek photography talent when what you really want is psychological help it's dishonest and I will decline.
Compensating for you low-self esteem is not the job I want. Go somewhere else for that.
Over-inflated ego, thy name is Bob. You're such a hypocrite. You come to this forum, LOATHING people at will, and usually because they won't meet the client's demand in some way. You trumpet, time and again, how you'll move heaven and earth to make their vision reality. Then, when it comes to the subject of photography, which you don't even do, you go to the mat in calling those of us who will do what our clients ask, liars. Thanks for demonstrating what an egotistical, double-talking piece of work you really are.
I choose to work with people's vision, not their dysfunctions.
YMMV
On behalf of my client, I find this post HIGHLY offensive. A guy walks into your office, after having dealt with extreme physical handicaps for a lifetime and you proclaim that he needs psychological help is outrageous. Boy, for every time you've taken a swing at someone in this form, claiming they were letting their ego get in the way of delivering a requested service, you just topped them all. It's disgusting.
Calling a handicapped individual, mentally dysfunctional, is beneath even you. You should apologize to this group.
I trust this group is smarter than you imply.
I would absolutely decline the request, and I would be acting out of my own personal integrity - not as God.

Rick, I completely agree with what you have said, however if you would please quit feeding Bobs desire to argue I would appreciate it, seriously you could tell ketchup was red and he would come up with some argument against you and 7 reasons why he is better than you because of it
trust me I get itSorry tunes but this one just got to me. That client is/was solid gold and when I've read multiple posts from Bob, inferring that the guy was mentally-defective, all because the client wanted his eyes fixed in his wedding photography, it just incensed me.
trust me I get it
Bravo!A person who cannot acknowledge the beauty in their own self, denies me the beauty of honest work.
