DBX GoRack - SUPER DEAL!

I have been using one for a while now and really really like it. The sub synth really makes my small 12 inch sub shine - haven't tried it with my 15's but I imagine it will be smokin'. The EQ curves are varied enough that you can really get your sound shaped nicely in a pinch when things seem flat. Got mine when it was quite new and pricier but no regrets! It has replaced my Behringer DEQ2496 which is way more powerful but you need a PHD in Physics to really get it to work properly...

You can sorta see how I have the Go Rack patched into my system in my Giglog from this past weekend (advance to 2 minutes 54 seconds-ish to see):

I ordered one yesterday because I was looking for a low cost compressor. I don't think these units sold very well. My thought was there's only on parameter knob and it looks flimsy compared to rack mountable units. The say the compressor is based on DBX's 133 model, which sounds good for 29.99,

Email from ProAudioStar came this morning ...

ARGHH I paid $79 for mine.

The feedback processor is useless, by the way (not that I expected much).

It may be useless in your environment but I highly doubt that dbx would put something in a product that is "useless".

After everyone here receives theirs, I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on the goRack's Anti-Feedback. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and hence getting poor results... but so far my experience has been that it's a poorly-implemented feature and potentially one of the reasons they're now giving these away for $30 :p A couple of Behringer Sharks off of Craigslist have been serving me much better in that area. I do like the device's other functions, though.

Honestly, feedback reduction should be done just on the mics and not on the whole audio stream, but that is where a DriveRack sits. My DRPA has always done a good job with feedback, though I clear it often. I do like the Sharks (I have 3), but I suspect the Go unit should be serviceable .. especially for those without any other feedback control mechanism. We'll see in a week or 2 when we get a chance to test these.

BTW, it's also a handy dual mic input expansion for mixers .. or a DI box (say keyboard in and out via long XLR) .. a nice tool for the toolbox.

It's made someplace (probably China), stuck in a box, shipped to the U.S., advertised, sold for $30, and then shipped for free to consumers.
It makes you wonder how much these things actually cost.

Like a lot of digital gear, the software development is a good chunk of the costs, but that doesn't have a hard cost. The hardware is probably a single DSP chip (might even be a Sharc chip) and a simple mixer .. though I'm still guessing that it costs at least $20 to build and get it here .. so at $30, there is no profit for dbx ..

It is actually a very solidly built little unit - nothing feels cheap about this little work-horse at all IMHO. I find I'm using it regularly at recent gigs since it is extremely simple and easy to use. No, it is not a super high end Swiss army knife (i.e. drive-rack or in my case a Behringer DEQ2496) type unit but for a small mobile rig where you don't want to do hours of tweaking of millions of complicated parameters to get a decent improvement in sound, this is a handy dandy tool. Have sent an email to the ProAudioStar company to see if they will ship to Canada for a reasonable price as I would like another one for the rig I am setting up for my son....

Here is the price they charge in the Great White North: dbx goRack Performance Processor [goRack] : AVShop.ca - Canada's Pro Audio, Video and DJ Store

From what I read, option 2 is the one for most environments.

Looks like musicians friend has them on sale now as well.
As a product, it was only introduced April of 2015, so not likely it's being discontinued already but who knows.

Here is how I have mine patched in right now feeding input one on my EV Top Speakers:

Once I get my second GoRack, this is how the right or backup side (usually) of my DJ table will look. The previous post is my left or primary side of my sound system. Very easy to go back and forth between the two with no switching required (except video stream which is not shown in these audio-only configuration drawings). I made these drawings up quite a while ago as a cheat sheet for my son to aide him in setup when he helps me at gigs or does his own (I just quickly modded this one to include the 2nd GoRack. Note that I use input 2 on my tops for this side of my system (see video I posted in this thread to see the actual physical arrangements of my system)....
