I believe the MC seminar is brand spanking new.

I would love to attend either and was considering it for MBLV...however it looks like I won't be doing Vegas in 08.

Dang! I thought you were!

Wasnt so impressed with him in Vegas last year though I must give him the energy card. He confirmed much that I had already experienced as did most of last years lineup. This yrs lineup phowever appears to b loaded with gem speakers.

To the best of my knowlege, Mark didn't have any presentations in Vegas last year. Peter Merry did.

I have been to the Love Story workshop (last year), and went to the Master of Ceremonies last month.

I am already signed up to attend another Love story workshop in April, 2008, and when they schedule another Mic workshop in Indy or Chicago, I will be there also.

Both have had serious impact on my abilities, performance, and confidence.

sorry Dan my Bad I was thinking Scotty Faver. Atleast when he saw me in Vegas he knew who I was.

Well, I'm sorry my session was not up to your par.... :sqerr:

You should attend his "Master of ceremony" workshop - It's a professional presentation and investing into your learning and skills will always benifit you - You will never learn enough via online communities to make you unique - With so many blinded by EGO your keeping ahead of the curve will make you a valued source in your local community.

I truly believe the future of being a successful mobile entertainer, especially in the wedding market is based on your emcee skills.

I know several wedding DJs who are serious about fine tuning their entertaining skills have told me that they are or plan on attending workshops like Mark's Master of ceremony classes, joining Toastmasters, improv groups, & taking speech or english classes at their local community colleges.

Agree? Disagree?

Bill Im a master MC however it took some courses and a long run as a Karaoke host to hone them. I never said I didnt get something out of the seminars last year Jam merely said it was less than I thought and merely confirmation which in its self is priceless to know. Thanks Jam.

Bill : Almost totally agree. There's a possible critical step before that skill enhancement process which is to have some sort of unique and individual personality to project.

While diction, clarity, elocution and presentation are absolutely essential to a radio jock, having that personality or character image defined first, to my thinking, is paramount to the entire program of being a career mobile DJ because we are "performing" live.

In essence, one needs to determine who they are first and then the follow the best roads to get that rounded fullness needed.

Experience has shown many who attend these How To's are in pursuit of someone other than themselves. While the search and education is swell, something very individualistically unique gets lost if approached as a cloning process. Many of the presentations and seminars are just that...cloning according to one formula.

Thanks Cap for that very accurate account might I copy it for my book?

LOL Just Kidding!!!!!

Jon : Once you've learned how to write, you certainly may.

No I will Hire Mr Durio to edit my stuff lol. I know you think my grammar or edumacation is minimal its just I dont take the time to edit as my sticky arthritic fingers along with the poor typing skills disallows the ability to retype something. Lets say its a chore the first attempt. I do however now make efforts to fix spelling errors as Im proficient when it comes to spelling. Though a jock in school I won spelling bees against all the scholarly folks it used to piss them off.

In many ways I have viewed some programs with similar views. However such blanketed statements, without specific addressing will reflect badly on ones that are valid assets. Some will read such statements and translate hidden messages that ALL are bad and in an industry where a few see NO value in educating the masses to a specific level in general do-more-harm and are more self serving that they may realize.

It’s agreeable that remaining unique is all in the presentation and that maintains our individualistically performance approach.. Look at the entertainment industry - Stevie Wonder, Gene Maillard, Jesse McCartney, James , Kim Basinger, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan ALL are as different as night-n-day and with unique talents and entertainment presentations, yet in their prime they pursued education, coaching and new presentation formula, often from the SAME individuals, Howard McCrary as an example is a performance instructor ALL of the mentioned individuals have used. I would agree even the best entertainers can take the cloning process via workshops, but it’s the application of what they learn that makes them unique.

I now ask – Which programs promoted within our industry are only Cloning Tools?

Hey Bill,

I think ya spelled Marks name wrong... ;)
It was done deliberately to keep the trolls away. ;)

Not that it would matter. This forum is closed to outside searching anyhow. :)

Those are all excellent programs. I myself took Public Speaking classes (High School & College) along with toastmasters, and found them to be very beneficial. The one thing I have found is, that when you are not speaking on a regular basis, you lose your edge. By regular I mean 4-5 times a month, where you are performing significant MC duties. Refresher courses are excellent, they help you to "re-tune" your skills.

I did a lot of Public Speaking in my previous corporate life, and the main benefit of seminars is, they give you some techniques you can use along with some of the Do's and Don'ts.

Still the number one thing that will have more to do with your success and confidence, is preparation. Know your subject matter, know name pronunciations, have notes/cards with highlights of your subject matter. These are designed to keep you on target, on subject. In addition speak slow and clearly. It's not a speed contest.

While your "cloning" concern is appreciated, respected and agreed with. This (Mark Ferrell) mc workshop is the exception.

One of the things that floors me about both workshops I have attended, is Mark's uncanny ability to match, and challenge each person in the class, at their own level.

I was in the class with Bill Herman. There is no way, I am anywhere near his level. He felt the workshop beneficial, as did I, as did a dj in the business for a little over a year. I will go again. and learn.

Umm fellas why do we bend over backwards to twist someones comments. Perhaps Im the odd man out but I happened to take Caps comments a totally different way. My take was he was trying to say that taking things and trying to clone anothers lessons exactly can become a recipe for disaster.
