Part of our job is to coax people dance.....

I've had clients use the term "make" as in, "are you sure that you can make them dance? They didn't at the last Holiday party"

If I say, "well I can't make them do anything, but I will play the best danceable music in the world and I'll be happy to play any request that they will dance to..." Will I get that job?

I dance behind my gear...

Aloha :chuckthedj:

I honestly never really cared if folks danced or not.

It's great if they do, but not really necessary to the success of a party (IMHO).

I'm just as happy with the toe tappers, as they are enjoying what I'm playing, yet may not be inclined to dance. I also like the sing along, or hum along folks, as they are surely having a good time.

Success can be measured in many ways... :sqwink:

I never coax people to dance. If I throw on the Cha Cha and the numbers are feable, I may mention something real quick. Otherwise, me asking people to the floor I think makes me look silly. My humor is good, but my begging needs work.

BUT,

when it comes to me dancing on the floor...no way.

My schtick is like this.
I'm shaking and moving and never stand still behind the decks. I'm very visible like that and I do have rhythm thank GOD. That is what infects the crowd. They know I'm engaged into the music and excited as hell to be there even if I'm not.
I rarely have a dead floor after the Cha cha gets people in the mood.
Then I bust through and beatmatch and rock for the rest of the set.

I've tried getting out on the floor a couple times....I just don't feel comfy out there and I don't have a routine....

I should have been more careful in my wording... I meant do you dance when you are a guest at an event?

I started a new thread... with the correct wording, I hope!
