I've always hooked it up before the crossover.

If you do it after, then you'll have no control over the frequencies that are on the other amplifier output, unless you want to get an EQ for each one, which would be senseless to me.

Agreed, the electronic crossover should be last in your signal chain, before the amps.

Is it just me or did these two posts conflict each other????

Clark says before the crossover and Fred seems to be saying after the Crossover.... Did I read this wrong?

Not necessarily Rob, what CClark is referring to is that you can put one EQ to the sub output and the other to the high outs you just zero the frequencies on the EQ at the crossover point, but then again it's just a lot simpler to just put the EQ before the crossover and make adjustments a lot easier.

EQ before crossover. If you do it the other way around you would need multiple eq's.

So it would seem. :)

EQ should always precede the electronic crossover. The crossover precedes the amp inputs.

And it depends on what you are EQing. If you are using mics and want to EQ for feedback you want the EQ setup on the mic sub group or on an insert for each particular mic. That way what you EQ out of the mic(s) will not affect your overal sound for the music.

On the other hand if you want to EQ a smiley face for the music you need to setup an EQ just for the music channels or your smiley face will be reflected into the mics as well!

Then of course you may want to setup an EQ for the overall sound and this would be required somewhere in the line before the crossover!:sqwink:

I think you read it wrong.

They don't appear to conflict. Fred is saying the last thing before the amps should be the crossover, which would put the eq before it.

Also in this wold of DSP/speakermanagement systems eq's are not used since most of these units have eq functions built into them...

D'oh!!! I must have been tired when I read that.... LMAO
