I've had a nice little flurry of inquiries this month, which has been unexpected, but nice. But two very explicit comments have continued to confirm something that I really believe in:

_________and I really appreciate your time yesterday! We listened to a few of your mixes on the website and were very impressed, and with you coming so highly recommended from ______, this is pretty much a no-brainer for us.

and

You came highly recommended by our wedding coordinator, __________. After listening to the demos on your website, I can see why. Would you happen to be available for our wedding on...

Taso rings this bell a lot too. But I'll just point it out again... having examples of your work to show is so critical. And, developing good relationships in this business means that the first questions people ask isn't "What do you charge?"

ive had quite a flurry this month too.... must be something in the air!!

Top notch work on your mixes!! Its refreshing when customers can tell the difference thats for sure!

I'm sure that helps having samples but from my experience referrals are much less concerned with price than cold calls

I'd agree with that. Most of the time I hear DJs complaining about price pressure, and then you hear that gig inquiries are coming from GigMasters or Thumbtack which constantly drive those prices down.

Anytime you have to get into the "big pool" with everybody else, the prices are harder to fight for. When you start on a short list of referred or preferred vendors... it's a whole different ball game.

Kinda like a septic tank, if you get in it, you're just another turd in the gunk.
.. or you're Ed Norton (will anyone get the reference ?)
