You're right - those are very helpful. You can make them yourself out of aluminum as well (might save a little coin). They're also very helpful for crossing door thresholds.

Using heavy duty aluminum diamond plate material and piano hinges (both available at Lowe's or Home Depot), one can custom build and size those bridges.

I wish I could figure out a way to perm-mount my van ramp. I've tried hinges, but the ramp lip isn't long enough to make it work. I'm really thinking seriously of upgrading to a box truck next year and go with a lift gate. I'm simply running into more venues where it would be great to use their standard loading dock.

For anyone in a major metropolitan area the box truck is a great choice

Except for venues that cannot accommodate...
or in major cities where you cannot drive box trucks in certain locations...like tunnels.
We've seen it with the production company, but we deal with it because we NEED a box truck.
We have had to go with renting regular sized vans or Sprinters on occasion.

I don't have electric door locks on my van doors. Have to walk around and check each door one by one. I think I'll buy a semi next year?
My insurance agent said No to a box truck.

...My insurance agent said No to a box truck.
Did your agent give you a reason?

Don't want a box truck... what I want is a RAM ProMaster Cargo Van. I have to park in my driveway and a box truck would be too big, and would probably violate the neighborhood bylaws. A few of my neighbors have RAM ProMasters though.[emoji4]

At one time, I thought of those Sprinter vans - but I don't feel like the additional maintenance, insurance, etc on yet another vehicle.

I have a minivan strictly for the biz. Having a RAM cargo van wouldn't be much difference in maintenance. They have the same engine I have in my Jeep.

Go for the semi. Skip the in-between steps where you keep upgrading. We went from vans to cube truck, to cube truck + trailer, to freightliner with 53' trailer.....no going back.

Whenever I end up in a city the easiest load in point is usually a standard loading dock load in from the ground usually ends up being more labor intensive

YES!!! I would like to have a word with a few of the architects that designed some of the Vancouver area hotels; complete morons! Since half of a hotel's daily deliveries are made by companies using standard vans, why is that many of these hotels have NO ramp or lift in place, just a skinny set of concrete steps? Unacceptable! Then, once you get in, you have to negotiate thru a zig-zag kitchen, down a hall, turn, down another hall, turn again only to arrive in the last hallway which has so much crap in it that you can't even pass by with a 24 inch wide load! Unacceptable!

Cost too high to insure for the amount of return or use.
I have had two astros , Now Chevy express & 12 X 6 trailer. Ram would be my choice if I where looking.

I get what you're saying - I'm saying I op'd for the trailer instead - other than tires and general care, no additional maintenance or costs.
