PLEASE Mix get it thru your head SUBS don't have to be used at every event. They can and will muddy your sound
Get it through your head. For this event they are needed! I know I don't need them all the time. I got an event to do on October 7th and all I can use in that little room is the 2 tops.

Look at it this way sir. I'm providing them with something that others won't provide.

Besides what you said you can use just a pair of tops and the sound not be right. It's all in knowing what you're doing.

Why do you think they are needed for the small amount of people that will stay and dance? I'm not saying don't bring them .. just that from a practical standpoint, they probably aren't needed.

If you want to bring them, realize there is a cost in manpower and setup time that needs to be factored in. Most folks aren't impressed with large amounts of speakers.

Giving something that others didn't isn't what will impress them... giving them something that will in fact benefit them is what impresses. Overwhelming bass can be a big negative for speaking events.

Mix there is a middle school a play at in the gym and the first time I used my subs it sounded like shit. Each and every room will give you different sounds. I'm not saying don't use them do what ever you want, your the one who has to lift them puppys not me

Do you have any idea why they selected you?

Your subs won't impress them. Good sound and great music selection for that event will. Perhaps Mcing depending on the event. Those are the things that will get you referrals. If you need the subs for great sound, use them.

I see it often where Djs will bring in a bunch of equipment to try to impress a client. Clients are almost never impressed by the amount of equipment.

I saw a thread somewhere where the dj brought uplights and a gobo even though the client didn't pay for or request them. The dj was trying to give extra value. But the lights and the gobo were screwed up. The client wasn't happy. Why the dj didn't just turn them off, I don't know. But he felt the client shouldn't be upset because he didn't charge them. But the reality is the presentation looked screwed up to the client.
Point is, don't impress them with equipment. Impress them with results!

Let me explain it again. I will playing after the speaker portion is over and I will be in a different room altogether. Steve you assume that only a few people will stay for the dance. I don't know how many will. I was a Boy Scout and their saying was be prepared.

Stop worrying if it will sound right. Those 801p subs have knobs in the back so you can adjust the sound. Unlike my old Yamaha subs that had only a volume knob to try to control things.

If you are playing in a different room .. WHO is running the sound for the MAIN EVENT? Are you now having to bring 2 different systems for the price you quoted?

Steve the speaker portion will be people just sharing their experience about a topic they are to share on. No need for an additional system for that.

For that part my partner will be using the recorders I bought for such a thing and that's it for that.

He wiii keep switching the recorders as some more come up to speak. Then make up CD'S of the people who just finished speaking. Then have the CD'S on the table for who wants to buy some. The committee gets 20% of the money we make selling CD'S.

I will be downstairs after setting things up for the dance so I can enjoy the speakers until it's time for me to start playing for the dance.

People can care less ( most of the time) what equipment you are using as long as the sound is great & doesn't look like junk!!

But the last speaker jam you showed pictures of had a small PA system being used for the speakers .. Didn't you offer to mic them up? That would be the place you win the reviews.

'Good' equipment doesn't sound 'good' if it's not used properly.
you're so right! My experience has been serving someone not having enough and trying to make up for what they are lacking and pushing things to the extreme. In turn the sound will be horrible and running the risk of damaging something. If not right then, over time.

Don't worry with us doing the setup the sound will be tight to the right and left. I know what to do and what not to do.

I don't think you understand. I didn't say someone not having enough. I said having 'good' equipment doesn't sound 'good' if it's not used properly. You could have all of the best and most powerful equipment in the world - and it could still sound like crap. You really need to listen to your peers who have been there and done that. You might actually learn something that would help you.
