BL,
Understood. It's all good.

Holidays are no excuse for stupidity.:sqwink: The problem that frosts my @$$ is that most of todays sales people have never been taught how to truly help a customer. It's even worse in the bigger chain stores.

What would you do if a client asked you for a song they weren't sure who sang it but it goes something like this? Would you tell them "sorry but I don't have that song"? or "Let me look a bit and maybe ask a few other professionals on ODJT, someone there might know". Well, when I go to a store and ask for help I expect the same answer. I've just grown accustom to doing my own research before I hit Home Depot or Lowe's.

OK, my rant is done for the say. Carry on.:sqlaugh:

I was in Lowes today and found a similar product to the Tuf Board. It's called Rot Board. It's 100% PVC and appears to be light weight. I priced a 7 1/4" X 8' board at about $25.00. Maybe Hank can give us a price on the Tuf Board.

Hank, it must be a regional product, they do not sell in AZ. I received an email from them and 5/8 x 5.5" x 4' is 9.88 plus shipping. They did not quote any 6 foot length. In your opinion would it be worth to have it shipped to AZ

My box is going to be a little bigger that yours. I figured 24 deep by 34 long and 7'5 (or 5.5 not sure yet) height on the bottom. 3 inch for the lid would be good.

I am going to be putting my yamaha MG124C mixer on the right side and on the left putting my co-pilot, cotrex 1000, mic, hard drives and 1 external cd player. Under neath the left side would be the cables and the power plug and jack plates

I looked at the Tuf Board again. It appears to be a bit lighter than the Rot Board. However the Rot Board is all PVC. Tuf Board is a composite which makes it lighter. Also the Rot Board is more expensive. If you are doing anything around your house I would suggest the Rot Board over the Tuf Board. Rot Board has a wood grain finish on one side that blends in nicely with the house. Any future trim I need I will be using the Rot Board.

Off to Home Depot to purchase the Tuf Board.

Here is a thought. You might be able to find someone who can cut the board to the length you need then ship them to AZ. I would check on the weight difference between Tuf Board and Plywood. 5-10lbs difference might not be worth the cost. Just a thought.

I might just use 5/8th inch plywood that can be ripped to size and braced with alum. sq. tubing for supprt. Has to be lighter that the box I am using now. Old big monster with 1/2 inch plywood. I can get a sheet of that plywood for 13 or 14 buck. Big savings from the 70 or 80 or even more with shipping on tuf board.

As long as the dimensions are good you can customize the inside to whatever you want. All you need is the basic box. With either rigid foam for something light weight you can create an insert. Look around though, I've seen that case other places without so much for the shipping.

I'm just building mine because I need custom design and size of both halfs.

Here's the completed project. I hope to see some of yours soon!

Hank,

I'm not sure if you do this, but making a black "skirt" to hang from the sides with valcro, and wrap 3 sides down to the floor would really help you out by giving you more workspace on the floor for cables. Just get the $5 basic black fabric from wal-mart, and apply it with some Velcro.

That's a good idea but the Walmart fabric will look like Walmart fabric if it isn't pleated. You also want to make sure the material is fire retardant, meets the NFPA standards and that it comes with a certificate. You can't be to careful in this business.

Well you can use any fabric you like, I use wal-mart fabric now as a truss valance, and it doesn't look cheap to me. :sqwink: I know DJCarolina uses the same stuff to skirt around his rack and table, and it looks pretty good. If you wanted to spend the money, I'm sure you could get some nice pleated fabric..

I'm not picking on what you use. I've used just straight fabric before as well. I've found that the pleated fabric tends to blend in better with the other table skirts and has a nicer look. Use what you feel works best.

I will stress the NFPA rated material. Better chances nothing will happen but there is always a chance. And for a little extra it's one less worry you have to deal with. Even if it's not your fault. If you have it in any contact with heat, electrical, etc, there is always a chance. It's just a word of caution.
