Weddings Paying Employees at Bridal Shows?

Some guys in my area pay their employees with "glory pay".

The only pay is that they'll been seen at the Bridal Show, which seems to fill their egos.

I know a multi op that hired young good looking male models to pose as his DJs (it attracts the women) They are there to hand out materials & collect names & numbers of those that want more info. .....and flirt with the women.

When I managed a multi op, I paid my guys AT LEAST as much as they'd make working a dance (often in the $25-$50/hr range, plus a good meal after the show, plus travel). They rarely had to do any setup; just show up to sell. Kept my sales guys fresh and happy to be there....also gave them a little beauty rest if they had an event the night before. Setup people liked the arrangement cuz they didn't have to be all smiley and nice after a long night and an early morning booth setup (typically our booths took a couple hours to set up, so we would arrive 8 or 9 am for a noon or 1 fair).

If these people are DJs, I'd say the buck stops at a bite to eat. You are there for the sole purpose of generating business. Business that creates work for them as well as you. This isn't a corporation like Wal-Mart, etc. You pay the stock people and merchandisers because that's a specific job they were hired to do. So, unless these people are being employed by you to be roadies, they shouldn't expect to be paid for marketing themselves.

If you pay them well, treat them well, they will love being there talking to potential clients about what they do (selling well). Make them feel like they are important enough that you can set up for htem....that they can show up and be the front man. That's what they do every weekend for you. If they are good at what they do, they'll do well at selling....if they are treated well.

This is pure BS

False advertisement. What a fraud and of course from a well respected top level pro. I am appalled.

I dont

they put in free time to get the better shows
when the brides ask for them
then get a bonus for all shows after the first 10

Are these folks really employees or is it a phrase trumped up to make one's business look important and boost one's ego?
If they were truly employees they would have to be paid. I don't know the laws in all the individual states but I can state this......if this happened in Texas and I was one of those "guys"......reading this public statement addressing me as an "employee"......said business operator labelling me as such could be in the line of fire for a lawsuit for uncompensated wages. There will be a hefty fine if found guilty not to mention having to pay all monies due.
Unless y'all actually are paying someone a wage, stop calling your independent contractors employees. Find another way to boost egos.:triwink:

That's a pretty strong statement. Not quite sure I'd agree it was "false advertisement" as much as "savvy business marketing". He's playing his strong suit and realizes the show help is eye candy. In a former life, I used to do engineering shows and there were always booths who would hire female models to pitch to male engineers. They always walked away with tons of biz cards to follow up on.

It would depend on if the models were presented as the other DJs or not. If they were, then heck yeah false advertising. If not, then just underhanded marketing ploy.

I worked for multi-ops for years
(as an employee, not as a owner)
and I never got paid.
But considering I would also have to work bridal shows that were sponsored by the radio station...
I was finally able to convince them that I had put in my hours.

I was always told it was for MY benefit as well as the company's...
which I agree with.
But I do know many of the OTHER types of vendors would simply bay their employees by the hour,
like a normal day at work.
