And yet here we are..b*tchin' that some work 4 hours for $225.00...

More like 10 to 12 hours of their time most likely....plus not to mention they still bring their equipment set up and tear down.

Let's keep feeding the "work for less money" mentality, and my "DJs on Demand" Uber like App idea will very likely become reality in a couple more years.

We will have DJs going out and doing 4 hour shows for $85, and taking an 80% Net on it as their pay. First available DJ to be readily available, and ready to make that money will accept the work. The App will give them google maps directions to the gig. They go, set up, play, tear down, no money is exchanged. The App direct deposits the cash into the DJ's Bank Account the next day. Customers get to rate the DJ on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. If DJs don't maintain a 4 star rating, they are booted from the system...Better to a great job to keep those $70 gigs coming your way!

The App will let customers know which DJs are insured or not to boot, plus background checks will be mandatory to be a part of the system. DJs who can't pass the bankground check or refuse to work for the absurdly low rates will end up retiring because they won't be able to compete with the APP.

I should get with Uber Corporate, and pitch my idea. ...I am surprised Thumbtack doesn't get an app like this crated so they can corner the market completely.

next on Shark Tank Ricky with his idea for a DJ on demand

Oh my idea get's better!

The owners of the App will make a deal with DJInsuranceinMinutes.com so DJs can get Liability Insurance for themselves through the app directly if they want it. RVNuccio will give the app owners a referral fee for it :)

The client signs the agreement electronically in the app when they book their DJ. It will be a standard agreement...All DJs are "Independent Contractors" who get 1099d. The DJ Rates will be based on demand. If a lot of people are looking for a DJ for a party on Friday night, but only 2 available DJs are logged in, there will be surcharge rates to pay. If there are 30 DJs logged in trying to pick up a gig, and only 1 or 2 people looking to book a DJ for a party that night, then the rates are low. The DJ's must input what options they have available in their car ready to go when they log in ready for work. The App will up sell effect lighting, disco ball, and Up Lighting, even photo booths, fog machines...anything and everything on the spot in case the customer wants that stuff at their party. DJ's Must arrive 45 minutes prior to start time for load in and set up, or be flagged in the app. The customer's credit card will be charged at the end of the event once the DJ hits that the event is completed in the app. The app will figure any additional time charges if over time was played, and notify the client to agree to any additional charges.

The client can even pick their songs they want to hear in the app if they want.

Clients can also pick DJs for future dates such as their wedding or a event in the future. Every DJ will have a profile set up with set pricing on future events. If a DJ books themselves outside of the system, or is unavailable, they need to block themselves out on those dates so they app won't book them. You could even schedule VIDEO MEETINGS directly through the app with the DJ when booking future events. The app will alert both parties that the meeting time is coming, please log into the app for the Video meeting with the DJ/Client! No need for emails or phone call tag.

It will revolutionize the industry, streamline everything, and kill the way the Mobile DJ Industry operates currently in no time!

Now, I need to get with a programming company to get my idea off the ground! :djparty:

I was seeing mail trucks making deliveries on Sundays and asked a mail carrier friend - it's Amazon. 100% amazon.

Now the USPS wants to drop saturday deliveries..cost issues..yet they now come in, open up and all that for Amazon? And at $2/package?

Yeah, Amazon is moving all of their FLEX Markets to 3 hour blocks from 4 hour blocks. Intead of paying people $72 for a 4 hour shift to deliver their packages, they will now pay people $54 for a 3 hour shift to deliver the same amount of packages!

"The good news is that you will be able to work more blocks in a day!!!"

The SPIN these companies put on their decisions that favor themselves is laughable.

I responded that the decision was pointless to most of us as many can't even get 1 shift a week...let alone multiple shifts in a day!

All part of their master plan to bring their delivery costs down to a minimum.

Of course they are using USPS for The holiday season since they got a contract set at $2 per package with USPS regardless of the size...and if the package is reported missing, it's on USPS, not Amazon. ...After the season, Amazon will go back to using flex again I bet, and at lower wages. Only the desperate will continue to do it because well...they need the money.

I also thought it was interesting that the Amazon Ad for warehouse workers this season was only ran for 1 week, and they were offering less pay than last year....quite peculiar.

I know.
Driving a bus 'full time' (20 hours) pays $335...less taxes of course. (16.75/hour - high pay for driving a bus or anything for that matter)
Doing taxes pays $12.50/hour. And continuting ed is not paid for..25 ish hours a year.

Most other jobs around here pay less. You can be a school aide for $9.50/hour, drive a transit bus for $13.88..I know there are other jobs out there but I'm not qualified or young enough to do many of them, or can i justifiy a year or 2 in school and $15k-30k for it. And then start at the newbie on the low end of the pay scale.
I could go to school for welding and help build the cracker plant..maybe, no guarantees. I'll be 57 at that time...really, do I, CAN I work outside year round, bending, fetching, etc 40+ hours a week? OK, so it's supposed to pay nearly $100k a year.
I could go into some kind of sales..besides selling my own services..say, selling cars, and probably make a good buck. I'm choosing happiness over that.

My gear is paid for... to go DJ for $250 for 3 or 4 hours sounds pretty good in comparison., Yeah, $600 or $1000 sounds better - but alas, i'm not the only DJ in my market and many indeed do feel $250 is good pay.

To paraphrase The Graduate ..

Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you. Just one word.

Benjamin: Yes, sir.

Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?

Benjamin: Yes, I am.

Mr. McGuire: Computers.

Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean?

Considered that..back when I left HS no less.
Never did get into them 'for money'.
With kids and home ownership coming along I lost time to stay up on them. Used to belong to a computer club, subscribe to BYTE, program in basic, VB, pascal, cobol, PERL, HTML. Played a bit with FORTRAN and C, SQL and access database.

Now it's all 'networking'.

if you don't feel like delivering the packages if you go over your 3 hour time frame...BUT, doing so may reflect on your ability to get offered or scheduled shifts in the future. ...So it's in your best interest to deliver all the packages even though it could take you 5 hours if they gave you more packages than is realistically feasible to deliver in the 3 hour time block.

It's never a good idea to do more work than you are paid for especially for a major corporation but if there are those willing to do it it becomes the standard...Until it becomes a safety issue and bad press abounds

Networking still ends with a computer in the cloud somewhere. My son is working at a financial data center running fiber optic cables. He never finished college (I do wish he would at some point), but those jobs are still paying close to $25/hr, more on average, as he gets a lot of overtime.

Coulda been plastic computers...[emoji1]
As it turned out, pharmaceuticals might have been a better choice... DRUGS![emoji1]

Not sure plastics has the job opportunities that computers still have these days. I got my degree in Computer Engineering and actually went into computer sales. Went back to a technical role a few years later when I realized I was still real good at it (and not so good with cold calling).

We have two K-Marts hanging on by a thread within ~30 miles of me. I rarely find myself shopping in either. Usually this time of year I'll pop in once or twice as they do have some decent 'general' gifts for $10-$20 for myself and people I don't necessarily know what to get. A couple years back I bought myself a manicure set for $10. It's still going strong much better than the one that cost me $30 from Amazon and broke within a few months.

Other than that the only times I'll go in Kmart is if I have to be in the same strip mall for something else and am looking to kill time or the Wally World down the road is just to busy.

A few years ago while in Kmart I noticed a "Thank You for Not Smoking" sign. I laughed it shows how dated the store is. Smoking hasn't been allowed in stores for decades!

For me, K-mart ceased being a destination when they killed off the Blue-Light specials.

Craftsman is not as good as they used to be. Alot of their tools no longer have the lifetime guarantee/warranty either. I've switched to Kobalt for alot of my tools.
While not a fan of Lowe's for various reasons , OMG I love my Kobalt Double Drive set, that set is awesome, and so freaking handy.
