Security at your House??

If I were a determined robber and knew you had good stuff inside all a yard sign would tell me not to go through any easy windows as they're probably wired in. Most off the shelf security systems don't put sensors on all the windows only the vulnerable ones. That being said most robbers are looking for the easiest target.

Not for nothing I always though monitored security services weren't the brightest idea unless you have the resources to bury and hide a second phone line. All any would be thief with half a brain would need to do to disable reporting is cut the phone line at the box on your house.

That's assuming that you dealing with a consumer installed alarm.
We have every door, every window wired & armed. We have motion detectors, glass breakage detectors as well as 24 cameras in & around the house. So it isn't a task of picking a specific window.

A professional alarm system professionally installed with cameras & web monitoring with window stickers & yeard signs is enough to generally encourage them to just move on to the next house.

If they come in the house, they are simply dead. No debate, no discussion, just dead.

Interesting thing I've found with newer houses, is they don't have storm windows or doors...

I consider them one of the greater pluses of older houses. It's a two tiered effort to get into a door or window (not to mention great energy savings).

I guess they don't look as nice, which is why most newer houses don't have them -- or maybe it's just too costly for new home construction... :dontknow:

I love them, especially the windows -- they cannot be opened from outside, they have to be broken, to get to the inside window. Huge noise maker (and blood maker).

I think it has something to do with double paned windows being standard nowadays. Our landlord just put in new windows and there are no storms but the windows are double paned. Old school windows are single paned thus the need for the storms? That's what I figured. I still feel the high winds through the new windows. That blows my hypothesis out the window, so to speak. :p

I hate them double paned things!

My aunt had some installed in a few of the upstairs rooms, and they are worthless compared to the regular windows and storms that were there.

Every single one has gone bad, and is foggy -- they let in more cold air (or let out more heat, depending on how you look at it), and are a security nightmare. You can't clean them once they go bad, and they lose their insulating characteristics.

Complete waste of money IMHO...

I just put double pane windows in after the hail storm broke so many of the windows.
So far they are air tight & I can actually feel the difference in the back bedroom. It doesn't get as cold as it did with the older double pane window.
