The park event is a no go and I'm good.

I had nothing to do with last year's event. I was there chilling. If I did it wouldn't have sounded like that. The big thing is he would have gotten more than what he paid. He did the right thing by giving him what he did. You pay a shitty price and you get do do. You pay more you get better quality. He did it the way he did on purpose.

Yes but he is your "partner" wouldn't that indicate that a percentage of what he makes is yours?

Mix,
IMO, this thread stopped bring about this gig a while ago. It's about people trying to help you understand you seem to make odd choices on gigs you accept and turn away.

Very few people here would accept a good that long for $250 on a Saturday. But the reason they find it odd that you would turn it down is because you WOULD do it for $300. The same people wouldn't do it for $300 either. The biggest reason is they are in demand enough to warrant more money.
I'm certainly not above making $250 a day. If I wasn't able to book gigs on a regular basis at a better price, I would dj each Saturday for $250. I'd probably do that at a bar each week. I used to charge $350 for a weekly Saturday karaoke gig in the 90s that ran for 6 yrs.
But for the time, effort, equipmentand marketing, booking individual gigs for $250-$350 rarely make sense for us, unless they are short enough during the day to allow for bookings in the evening.
For $300, I could rent them a sound system and a mic that they could plug in an iPad or computer to.

The offer to do it for $300 was us looking out for him. Of course the gig is worth way more than $300 to do this event. This idiot doesn't get it. He's letting his greed over rule good judgment.

What I mean is since this is a yearly event why not treat the people he wants to work the event fair so they will keep coming back year after year?

The reason I loved to play in the Private Place Lounge was because of how you were treated. Everybody got paid their money that worked there. Nobody ever got shorted out of their money. It was a nice place to work. Rarely was their drama in the place and you didn't have to work your butt off to get a crowd in the place. When I would get the phone call to work there and I was available, I wouldn't hesitate to say yes! That's what he needs to figure out. Now if they didn't like you then they wouldn't call. I got calls regularly to cover for the lounge!

I guess you know where you fall in this list ...

So, what do you call it when YOU don't accept a job for a difference of $50?
Standing my ground. I did it before for $25. I was only asking for $350 for a 5 hour 50th birthday party. It was another person who had seen me at work. I considered doing them a favor at that price. I was told that they would need to get the $25 from their kids. I didn't care where it came from, so long as I got paid $350. Once I heard that for me ended the conversation.

There is the saying either you stand for something or fall for anything. I don't know anybody on this site that no matter how bad they wanted to do a gig they had to say no to doing the gig.

This thread is too funny to me. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. If I did the gig for $250 I would take a beating on here for doing it for such a cheap price. Yet the same people who would beat me up are trying to convince me to do it. I'm laughing because none of you would do it but some of you want me to do it. No thanks either way.

If you did it with no DRAMA, no one would have said anything .. "Hey! Doing a gig for a friend this weekend .. Easy stuff, only $250 .. Would have liked more, but didn't want to sit on my azz that Saturday !!"

Or....don't post it on a forum.
