If you pay close attention lack of patrons at the bar gigs mix does are never his fault there's always a reason nobody goes to them, you know what they all have in common? The same DJ
Tunes I like you but you got this so wrong. I said before that I'm not the only DJ in this place having this problem. If it were just me I would have no problem with what you said.

There are places that I call dead zones. That's places where hardly any comes to the place. They expect you the DJ to solve all their issues within a few weeks by having a ton of people breaking down the door to get in the place. I've said this before how I don't mind assisting an owner with getting people in their place. I just hate when they expect you to do all the work and they don't do nothing at all.

I at least got to cover the next 2 Thursdays for my friend because I said I would. I would do that to him because in the past he has thrown work my way quite a few times.

WTF? So no crowd, no pay? What kind of bullshit is that? So, have you not gotten paid for the Sundays you have been playing there?
Let me say it this way sir. This place is run much differently then the PPL was run. They made sure they had what people liked to drink. They kept the lounge stocked properly. Also rarely did you have an issue with there not being a crowd in the place. I learned from the manager there that what they did was some nights they took money from other nights that went well to make sure everybody got paid the night they worked there. I just thought because the crowd was consistently a good size crowd that at the end you got paid from that. He told me he would already have the envelopes made up already with the exact amount each person was to get paid. So no isues with getting paid from that place ever and never a short.

That's one of the reasons I loved to play there. Besides that rarely were there an issue in the place where the DJ had to turn the music off because of someone having an issue in the place. I had it happen to me only twice all the times I played there. I did have one occasion while playing there that they backed up and some people bumped the table I was playing on and I did get on the mic and started cursing. I told them they don't have money to pay for the gear that was on that table.

As far as me playing there when I did I would have people come up and ske me when was the next time I was going to be playing there. That's how much people in there liked my playing. I would have to tell them I don't know since I didn't play there on a certain night all the time. I filled in when I was called and available. One night they were debating on being open that Thursday night due to it was snowing. They decided to open up and I came in to cover for my friend that had another job that day. The time on Thursday if I remember was either 7-midnight or 8-midnight. Not sure which one it was. By 11 the other manager called it a night because it was a light night. The good thing is I got paid all the money I was to get paid that night without any issues. So that way you wanted to come back to work there.

Mix you're stuck in the past... the places you speak of no longer exist and the scene has changed and you're not adapting... you're hoping for a miracle in the places you're trying to be at, when the writings on the wall that it just ain't going to happen. FYI no one on here knows what PPL is or was, but again... its irrelevant to your current situation and location. If people keep comparing things to the past, they'll never move forward.

FYI, for those wondering... in NJ (and perhaps elsewhere) it isn't unusual to hear of dj's not getting paid on slow nights or getting less than the agreed upon price. A lot of shady owners and promoters will always find an excuse... sales or vips were light... you didn't bring enough people... manager/promoter leaves before the end of the night. But word of those people spread fast and you knew not to work in those venues... plus they usually didn't survive a year. In the 6 yrs I occasionally dj'd at clubs in NJ I never had that issue... but I knew who was reputable and who wasn't. Mix you're just getting taken advantage of.

Sometimes they do and other times it's not enough to get him paid.

If one leaves their house to DJ at any venue or gig that doesn't pay a decent fee for one's time and equipment and services, than one is an utter and complete sucker. I wouldn't dream of leaving my house to play a gig unless I was getting a rock solid fee, a fee that was certain to be paid, period. For me that means about $150/hour with a 3 hour minimum. And I'm new. And if I'm actually responsible for getting a significant group of people into a club? I'd better be getting $1,000 or more.

Playing in a bar with no people for no pay? An unthinkable and unimaginably stupid waste of time. I wouldn't even do it once. You are better off practicing at home. Hanging around drunks and not getting paid? Incomprehensible. And unpleasant. And a waste of the only thing you have on this planet of any real value: time.

PPL=Private Place Lounge. I don't know why but he loves to talk about that place. Mix, no one gives a shit what happen back in the day. Talk about, and work on your current situation. I have been doing this since 1978 and have never had a private client, or owner of a bar or club step to me trying to short change me. If you allow owners to do that to you, you are a fool and a sucker. Why would they think your time is worth $0?

Dj on mic cursing at crowd for bumping into table. Yet you call me ghetto and tacky for suggesting people have their go to beverage in car. FOH.

He's hard to follow, but the "i didn't play there on a certain night" is talking about back in the day at PPL. Which is now closed. The every Sunday gig is the new DIVE that pays only if they have a decent crowd.

I was just talking about the other place in terms of how the place was being run and they did a great job running the place.
