Well the Knot refused my counter offer as well when they emailed me asking to sign up.
Proposed Counter Offer:
6 months trial period
any gig confirmed booked through the Knot receive 5% commission. (My figuring is based on their cost. If I book anything close to the number of brides they claim I will get exposed to, they actually come out ahead.)
At the end of 6 months we can look at the number and determine if it fits for me....

there response.
I understand how you feel, however, we are The Knot. We have the largest audience of couples, and are the #1 brand out there.
no trials, sorry! Advertising is best measured in the long run. We want you to be success...in the long haul. A couple months is not a good gauge. Brides are on the site for an avg 12-16 months. You need to be there too.

I suggested extending the 6 months proposed in my original counter offer to 12 months based on their time recommendation, but they turned that down too.

Oh well.

Your opinion is appreciated but I assure you, in cooperation with the knot, I am booking 75 weddings a year and the review system alone gets my name out there more than anything I could do on my own.

If you can't get the 5-star reviews, don't even consider the knot or wedding wire. Brides don't want a 3-star dj.

Glad your SEO and FB is working for you...

And, they don't NEED or WANT to take your counter offer. They simply don't need you. If you don't think the fee is warranted, move on. I am in my 6th year with them and things have never been better.

I have 105 wedding reviews, average of 4.9 on Weddingwire. I have 25 on TheKnot, average 5.0. Your arrogance was duly noted.

If you consider that arrogance then so be it. To be successful with these online places, brides want 5-star dj's. How many 3 star dj's are getting called? Not many.

You think The Knot or Wedding Wire cares about a counter offer? They don't.

First off, try to follow the thread. I am not the one trying to make an offer to TK, Ron is. Second, what part of 4.9-5.0 average on 130 total reviews are you failing to understand? Do YOU have 130? I'm also not a 3-star DJ, I'm a 5 star vendor. If you love TK, great for you that it works. In my experience, over a period of about 7 years, the ROI on both WW and TK is questionable, at best. I'll add that I'm seeing roughly the same number of leads now that I've dropped back to a free listing than what I got off paid listings. TK, doesn't seem as bad about price hikes but it still didn't return profit, in my opinion. WW was completely annoying in their huge increases, then they'd back down when you called them on it. If you like those platforms, and it works for you, good for you. Just save the smack talk for someone who is impressed. I am not.

All I can glean from your comment is what you typically say. While I'm fairly certain you're a fabulous DJ, on this forum, your posts come off as condescending and belittling. And, for whatever it's worth, your attempt at trying to put me down............fail. Better luck next time.

It's kind of like a venue telling a DJ they don't get any money up front. If people come in and buy something then you get a cut.

Most djs won't do that because now they are counting on the venue to get people in, and calculate the commission properly.

Web sites would have to rely on the DJ to be a good sales person, and then rely on the DJ to calculate commissions properly.

We can argue about the effectiveness of any website or SEO, but a DJ that can book gigs at a contract price, or a website that has shown the ability to generate traffic and get vendors to pay for services upfront is never going to take a deal like that.

It's not a gauge as to whether the website is effective or not.

I thought that only prevented you from seeing someone else .. not to prevent them from seeing you ???

I suspect the rest of the community can still see my messages on the thread. Not sure, but I suspect that the person put on iggy gets blocked from seeing posts. That would be a good thing.

I see Rick's posts, I don't see all of djmagicmoments posts, except the ones Rick's quoted.
Maybe we have a broken system ...

What I have learned is that Everybody out there is looking to collect money from you. The two way street is becoming more, and more non existent than ever. Years ago, businesses would look to earn your business first.

Companies like Wedding Wire and The Knot are not looking to earn your business. They are looking for a quick yes from you, collect your money, and move on to the next person they can sucker into paying a over inflated price not commensurate with the level of value they offer.

Once you are set up on their directory, you won't hear from them until renewal time.

Maybe once you might have a "Account Success Manager" reach out to you to see how things are going. This person is really just a bull shitter who's job is to schmooze over the paying customers and make them feel like they are valued.

I left Wedding Wire in 2013, and leaving did not phase my business one bit.

I had around 3 to 4 phone calls PER YEAR from my Wedding Wire ad. Maybe 5 BS leads that usually didn't go anywhere. I would book 1 to 2 weddings per year where I could confirm they found me through Wedding Wire.

My brother recently booked 2 weddings and a party off of Craigslist. That is free advertising, and within the last month he had 3 bookings.
