I use iDJPool.com primarily, along with a few key selections from Amazon and iTunes. I also buy the occasional CD (usually older material).

My "other" is used CDs. I like filling in my 60's, 70's, and 80's back catalog. "Best Of" albums from artists in those eras are the easiest way to do it...and so I hunt down the used CDs.

I generally buy the CD but I've been doing more Itunes lately it's pretty convenient especially when at a gig. In a pinch I have used File sharing to get a song but I did usually buy it after the gig

Prime Cuts, and Amazon. We don't and won't ever touch iTunes and when at all possible we always buy the album.

Why the non-love for iTunes?

On line shops for singles and cd's. I like to rip cd's myself to flac.

Because it is lame -- but the worst part is iTunesHelper. It was supposed to just allow you to connect to an iPod or iSomething. But if you look at the I/O reads and writes in Task Manager, you will notice it also indexing your songs, which slows your drives down. Even if you remove it from startup services, the next time you run iTunes, it will put it back in.

There are far better apps for managing your music library than iTunes.

The question was for J Mac as he said he wouldn't buy from iTunes. Managing with iTunes and acquiring songs from the iTunes store are two different things.

And I still find that managing with iTunes is the best method for me .. and I don't see any lag issues.

I use Itunes but truth be told if it was put out by someone other than Apple it would probably be considered a virus. Try getting rid of it all without a format I'll bet you a quarter you can't. Same with turning it off no matter what you do or how many times you do it it comes back.

Along with helper there's Apple Mobile Device support, application support, several updaters, Bonjour, and Quicktime and others that come along as free gifts with Itunes. Read the EULA sometime to really see what they are doing to you

From the very beginning I have never used iTunes for the very reasons you described. It is a parasite! My feeling is that if one does not know how to organize their Music Library on their own then I really don't know what to say! If one really needed help in doing that, then the next best step is their DJ Software. Any DJ Software worth it's salt will do that for you. One should be able to organize their Music Library in Genres/Folders in Explorer as the "Root", from there, those Genres should be in sync as to what is in your Software's Library. In other words, if you have 8,058 songs in your Rock Folder on you Hard Drive/Explorer, that same amount and names should appear in the Rock Genre in your DJ Software. That is as universal as you can get because you should then be able to take that Hard Drive (If it is external) and immediately use it in any other Software with all tags intact! If one has to rely on iTunes to label a sang for them and don't know the difference between Pop and R & B then.......................(I'm not even going to go there.)

One does not need to load Bonjour, Quicktime, or auto updates. They may be free, but they are also uncheckable .. same as Microsoft wanting to install Bing, Silverlight and such.

I need it, since I use iPhones, iPods and iPads, but would probably still use it without, as it is still one of the easiest ways to manage music for an environment where you use multiple applications to play music.

If you stick with one app .. then use that apps music management. The only real competition to iTunes is MediaMonkey.

Apple and all media player makers should make their file system drag and drop. If you want to buy content from Apple then it is a must to install Itunes but since all apple products can play mp3 or wav files they should give you a choice not to use their software an allow you to load media into the item you paid for any way you want.
