I wish it was simple as a Mix deal -- but it's not. This involves the selling of The Farm.

You folks probably know who I'm dealing with -- you know the folks with the full auto MP5s.

It has come to my attention, that when they invite you out for lunch and a couple drinks -- you follow their rules.

Heavy duty shyt. Haven't done it for many years, but I guess I'm back in the game (lame knees notwithstanding)...

I'm not a Mac guy ... just an "i" guy ... and Scott is correct. I have a netbook. It doesn't get turned on now that I have an iPad.

People may hate Apple, but their stuff works.

It's not so much hating Apple, but it's hating that everyone holds them and Steve Jobs on some sort of pedestal as this ideal company and leader when in fact their organizational culture is just about poison and Steve Jobs was nothing more than an arse who used people and then discarded them like trash.

A major dislike of Apple in general. Also since their file format doesn't play well with others, iTunes downloads are of no use to me.

There are lots of programs out there to rip M4A to MP3 this is the one I use but be careful on install it comes with as many free gifts as Itunes

One does not need to load Bonjour, Quicktime, or auto updates. They may be free, but they are also uncheckable .. same as Microsoft wanting to install Bing, Silverlight and such.

I unchecked all of them except Quicktime and they still install. I uninstalled Itunes and all the free gifts did it again and they all installed again maybe it's just me :/

Yeah, but the point is, I shouldn't have to use a program to do it.
You don't .. it's a built-in feature of iTunes to convert to alternate formats. You can click on a group and tell it to convert to MP3 if needed.

I haven't had an issue playing .aac files (except for a few very early ones that had DRM bits in them) in the apps I use, but it's pretty trivial to convert if needed.

Not saying iTunes is the greatest, but when you put all the pieces together, it works well for me.

But that's not really ITunes fault that your software doesn't play we'll with it. I use Mixmeister and I love Mixmeister so it's the choice I make if I'm going to have the convenience it requires me to convert the file that's the least of my worries with ITunes

To be honest, I haven't touched iTunes in probably close to a decade. When they first came out and had their DRM crap making so you had to use their products and software, I said screw it and haven't ever felt any desire to look at them again.

Also, when I want to preview music before a particular wedding, I load up a flash drive and plug it into my car...the car won't recognize iTunes files.

Actually it is iTunes fault, they were late to the digital music game and to capture their market share, they relied upon marketing the apple name and making it so if you bought into the iPod, you had to buy their music and vice versa.

Being that you can convert to whatever format you want (pretty much), you can make mp3's natively in iTunes, put them on your flash drive and listen to them in the car.

That goes back to my point, it's an extra step that I shouldn't have to do.

You don't have to do it .. the only time would be when you acquire additional songs from the iTunes store (and that is not required). All rips, all songs from Amazon, and all pool songs come into my iTunes directly as MP3s (or .wav if you want).

Totally agree!

MP3 and WAV are basically universal formats -- my can opener and toaster can probably play them, with no additional work on my part.

It's not an 'extra step' you have to do. I shall defer to Steve's comment, which I posted below here - as he said what I would say.

:)

You have mp3 / wav playing can openers and toasters? You and Ben (with his special coffee pot) should hang out.

:D
Ricky's going to be working on "listening" can openers and toasters now .. don't give him too many more ideas.

Did he mean play them as in they play through some on board sound system .. or .. did he mean they play them on other devices? Does his toasters / can openers become robots and actually play DJ?
