Adam,
I have been in this business since 1976, I have seen some people who used their heads get into it and make it. I have seen a lot more who couldn't figure out what advice was who got into it and failed some figured out they couldn't do it quickly and were out in a year, others dragged it out year after year trying one thing and then another NEVER STAYING CONSISTANT and finally gave it up broke and defeated!
I am certainly no hero (even though I know it was your attempt at snide) but I have tried to give you some good advice just like many others here have done. But for some reason you just don't have the ability to read and understand what is being given to you here!
What bothers me the most is that you are becoming the "town clown" here and that causes other young DJs who want to make it in this business get less time from the people on this board with experience to share!
Sit down, take a dep breath and ask yourself what you want out of life!
Do you really want to be a DJ?
Do you understand what being a DJ is all about!
Do you want to make money?
How will you go about making money?
Being a DJ is not a "glamor job" it is basic grunt work! There are basic personality traits that some people have and some don't that are required to make it in this business. There are basic skills that some people have and some will never grasp that make a good DJ! And last but not least being an entertainer is inherent in some and not in others it can't be taught!
Why waste "your" time on me then?
Why follow me, if you think my motive is a joke?
Why hinge on every word I say, just to put your two cents in?
Why??
"Town clown"
I share a thread about being broke two weeks ago, and it defines who I am?
Because you prompt me to..let's keep going with this since you "FORCE" me to defend my situation.
Outdoor trailer: Made my money from it. Looking into it further, I average 2 weddings a month during the summer months, and I don't feel I need to work every weekend. Is it wrong to take what assets I have in that, and look to a new direction?
Bose: I love them, my clients love them. They won't cover these new events I seek.
Energy Assistance: Paid in full, didnt accept any gov' money. Doing just fine now, got cash in the hand, and opportunities to make some work right around the corner.
Advice on here: I take numerous peoples advice, look at it from a whole, and try to pick the best one that will work for me.
Work from the boards: Absolutely not. Trying to gain some perspective so I can be more busy.
Fulltime job: You do got an argument there. However...discovering work for myself I dont feel is a horrible thing. This is a coin toss either way.
Old equipment/speakers. I will admit I bought a system last year I am not happy with! =( Nothing I can do now. I bought the system as a cheap bar setup as I was trying to pursue that adventure a bit more. I also simplified my light setup and went to a more elegant look which is working well for my smaller weddings/bars. This will not be acceptable for teens.
Hmmm..LOL...
...I dont remember what else you want me to defend. LOL.
I'm not trying to come off as the guy who dont listen, or the town clown...my typing does it to me. I admit it. I will never admit I am perfect, nor will I ever be.
And last but not least....there is advice I will heed from you. In these next upcoming weeks, I definitely will not be on here "AS MUCH" LOL...I got some other things to work on.
Oh..wait there is one more thing.
DJing was my calling in life...and I know this. I just want to keep this special thing going, but I also need to make some investments and set myself apart from some of my local competition.
