Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

Didn't read all responses, but there's a lot of good, insightful, and worthwhile stuff going around for sure. All this being said, what makes "a $1500 DJ" "worth" the price is that they probably aren't marketing, or selling... "DJ services." Anyone "looking for a DJ for their wedding" isn't...

Weddings Ceremony setup: front or back?

It's been far too long Kanute, hasn't it? I hope to be around more again now. A lot of good folk I miss and need to catch up with/on.

Weddings Ceremony setup: front or back?

I use 2 RE2 lavs (and an RE2 handheld) in my ceremony rack, and have them all going into a single EV APD4+. This nifty unit is a single-space antennae combiner and amplifier that lets you combine the signals for up to 4 EV mic units into one pair of antennae. I have a sing pair of 1/2 wav...

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - How I Go

Saw KWS at the Experience Hendrix Tour this year and quite honestly he was one of the best acts there. And that was despite his cock-rock poser of a vocalist. That guy sucked pretty hard and was a total poser on stage, but Kenny was good enough to pick up most of the slack. LOL

how to remove artist name in folders

I as well swear by Tag & Rename. All tracks are formatted 'Artist - Title [remix/version if applicable]' In my personal collection, for cd's where track order is to be preserved, I'll use the format 'Artist - [track#] - Title'

I would like to add a paragraph to my contract.

Jeebus Christopherson. I leave for a couple months and no one can even come up with a simple answer to a simple question. :P Here is some verbiage from my contract, and I think it will work nicely for your intended purposes: 9. A completed EVENT PLANNER form (or written equivalent) must...

Never any love for the DJ

Sorry to hear that Hank, and that your good will is taken for granted. The only way I'd seriously consider doing an event like that is with full-on banners, cards to everyone who came up to make a request or chat, etc. I realize no one is going to be looking out for me BUT me, so I will do a...

    Weddings What do you charge?

It doesn't matter what other dj's charge in different parts of the country unless you're doing a dissertation, compiling statistical data for a national article or publication, etc. For the purposes of determine your own rates, it is utterly and COMPLETELY 100% IRRELEVANT what any dj - even the...

    Venues

Not going to attempt a response to the OP, but regarding the specific scenario in question, I would refuse the gig. I require X setup time, written in the contract for each event and failure to provide it would constitute breach on the part of the client, and yadda yadda yadda... So as to...

    Weddings Timing

The only times I EVER put on my timelines or itineraries are the scheduled start/stop times for the events, and times that are specific and required by other vendors for staffing or scheduling reasons - ie, dinner served at X, photographer leaves at X, last call for bar at X, etc. Other than...

Part-Timers...Is Your Business Paying It's Way?

I say yes - the business has sustained itself on my side since I started in 2005. Some years it hasn't been a PROFITABLE as others, but it has always paid for itself. I have been very modest with my gear purchases and acquisitions, and only now - 6 years into the game - do I consider myself to...

    EV really blew people away

That is a great review, and video. It doesn't surprise me that they obliterate the K-series. Id like to hear a side by side with the KW series though. Even with that though, if the KW series did sound the slightest bit better, the price alone still makes the EV the better choice.

And on the first day, the Lord said "let us READ and understand posts in their entirety before we *try* to assail them with multi-line quotes." Weddings Brick house - songs like that .. help

Brick House & YMCA are just representative of "those songs" that are deemed tired, played out, and corny by many younger couples. We are not worth our salt at what we do if we don not have a fairly well formulated mental list of songs commonly placed in that category. It would also include...

    Sound quality of RPM/TMC/etc...

Ed - that's the way these tracks are being recorded and mastered now. It sucks, but it is what it is. Everything is ultra-compressed, there is no headroom at all, nothing breathes - it's just garbage. It's a production trend, not necessarily a fault of the sub service.
