Dan - I'm all for helping new members.... I don't tolerate laziness with my son; I',m certainly not going to tolerate it with some stranger. I've posted probably 60+ play lists from events here as have a few others. The OP can start there.....Just saying hey...give me a list...Sorry!
A little "tough love" never hurts
Steve believe it or not I agree and am I'm agreeing with you.
There is no excuse for laziness, the guy probably could have just searched on ODJT for an 80s song list. A couple weeks back I was doing research for a site I'm doing and needed top 10 songs of each year from 1970 on up. Google brought me right to it.
...and all fair for opinion discussions but NOT cause for censure or administrative discipline.
Steve,
Thank you.
No one is censuring or disciplining. Where do you see that? Worse that would happen on a thread like this is it gets split, so we can have the
same discussion we had a few weeks back:
Our DJ Talk - DJ Help and Resources Chat!
It seems the second a moderator or administrator states an opinion contrary to yours, you're being censured?
Dan - I think most folks' issue with this poster (and others of a similar ilk) is the manner in which the help was requested... (Ok, that's MY issue with it...) Trueblue didn't ask for some good songs, or even a place to locate 80's music. He specifically asked for a playlist, and one that would work for a 4-hour event, no less.
Every one has done gigs they weren't comfortable with or weren't sure of themselves anyone who says they've haven't is lying. Plain and simple.
If me, you, Rox, Jim doesn't want to help a newbie that's no problem. I don't get the need to come in and bust on the guy, and spin the thread off into this same discussion from last month.

AND THERE IS NO RULE PREVENTING RESPONSES THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO THAT/YOUR SWEDENESQUE PHILOSOPHY.
(Cap on purpose, I meant to yell so many might hear.)
AND THERE IS NO REASON TO JUMP ALL OVER A GUY JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THE QUESTION POSED. GOT IT? (Caps intentional maybe if I yell loud enough you will comprehend what I'm saying)
Technically it's being disrespectful to another member. No matter how much you don't like someone or their question. Skip over it no need to post pictures of raking coals, etc. That's just plain rude not to mention a little 'LOOK AT ME I'M HAZING THE NEWBIE'.
Context of the person posting is important, as has been illustrated, but so is context of the post itself, which we don't really have. In order to help someone expand their knowledge, don't we have to have some idea of what they already know - and have some starting point to dialogue from?
True Steve, context is important. So, if we don't have enough of the backstory or you (generally speaking of course) don't feel like it's worth helping this guy out. Close the window, move on to the next thread.
Let's face it play the odds if this guy doesn't get help here he will just go elsewhere and more than likely get a list elsewhere and that's fine but why turn members off to ODJT because a couple of guys have to jump down someone's throat?
