We just did a face-to-face meeting and signed a couple for photos and music for their reception to be held in July.

They both have been married before and have grown children, so it's not like they are looking for that "Cinderalla" type wedding and reception. We spent some time talking, just getting to know them a bit better as we had only had prior contact via email and phone calls.

These two had such a delightful sense of humor and we chatted away and discovered that the Groom is quite the outdoorsman (hunts, fishes, etc.) and the Bride works for the Department of Natural Resources.

We discussed photo packages and gave them the photo "pitch" and then moved on to the music and the reception.

As we are talking more and more I am discovering that these people are going to be fun and no way are they going to go for the "normal" way of doing things.

I of course explained our involvement with ADJR and how we like to think outside the box and we are completely customer oriented.

I was asking questions on what they wanted and what they didn't want and somehow I got them thinking about using their interest in the outdoors to provide some kind of theme to their reception.. I don't know how we made that left turn, but we did.

All of a sudden their eyes light up and they and we start coming up with all the possibilites for their reception.

You know how the "archway" is formed by swords and the bride and groom come in under it? Well, they think they might use fishing poles! They are now talking about table decorations with outdoor themes and on and on.
I mean so many ideas were thrown back and forth I could hardly keep us with them.

The Groom went from sitting back to actively participating and the Bride is in it right with him...These people so need to be married..because they were made for each other.

Ok, I've driveled along here long enough and I'll try to get to the point.

Has anyone ever done a reception using an outdoors/hunting/fishing theme?

If so, can you provide some input. If not and you still have ideas, I'd love to get that input also.

This should turn out to be one of the most unusual, interesting and fun couple we have run across in a long time.

We're gonna have some fun!

Probably the neatest thing was watching the Groom go from zero interest to maximum participation. He was sitting back being pretty quiet and then all of a sudden he's totally getting into it.

Thinking back on last night, I think the phrase that turned the conversation to more "creative" thoughts was that I mentioned that "not every wedding and reception has to be a cookie cutter wedding and reception".

Boy, do I love dealing with "unconventional" people who aren't afraid to break a few rules! :D

Leave the stinkbait at home. I don't think that will go over....

LOL -

It's funny that you mention it, as they were talking about the pastor that will be performing the ceremony and they mentioned that instead of cash he would probably prefer "catfish bait and some cleaned catfish" for payment.

:D

Crazy....I did a wedding about 3 years ago, with the similar situation. Both had been married before, but wanted a "down home" type wedding, in the local small town park. Picture this...

1. The ceremony was down the hill from where I was at, with the pa system. There were 100 people seated, and standing...the keg had already been tapped, and I would guess 50% of the ceremony audience was either holding a drink, or had one under their belt.
2. The bridal party has to go over this small footbridge to the place where the ceremony is to take place. I am playing music when everyone is coming over. I played Pat Greene "Wave on Wave" for part of it, I remember. T
3. The aisle has a pair of fishing poles and flowers at the beginning and end of it. The ring bearer has the rings on the end of a pole (not the real rings, however, as he was pretty squirrelly and had to go over the bridge and water to do his thing...).
4. THe ceremony went well, with vows including "I will let you go hunting with your buddies anytime you want, provided you take me fishing whenever I want to go with you" etc.....it was pretty neat, heartfelt and honest. There were a few "Cowboy Up" t-shirts in attendance, and multiple pairs of stiff unwashed Wranglers too....

I played the music from about 230 in the afternoon to nearly midnight, and it was my first official gig playing off the computer. The groom was a coworker/friend of mine, and I had a ton of fun. I ended up joining the party after all the formal stuff was done, and drank a ton of beer and whooped it up pretty hardy. Anyways, I bet you will have fun, and enjoy the heck out of yourself. I did, and wanted them to throw an anniversary party at the same place, and I volunteered bringing all the gear out, but it never happened. Oh well.....good luck, and have fun! These type of people make the dj business fun, and is about the only reason I keep doing it as much as I do!

You know, I love working for people like this. These are the types of folks I had priced myself out of the range of.

Outdoor themed reception . . .

I did a reception that was kind of like this.

Instead of having a gift table they used their canoe to put all of the gifts and cards in.

I thought it was a neat idea.

That's a cool idea...I'll pass this along to them!

Thanks,

Kirby, can you post that Powerpoint presentation I forwarded home this morning? It's from a down-South wedding all done in camo. It's a riot. I sent it to the bride and she said they might use a few things, including the wedding cake that looked like a cattail marsh. :sqlaugh:
