But they may not be as professional.

I don't leave my family for $500. I wonder if he's counting $100 bar gigs in that total.

Nope, we've been down this road before. It's all private events. This latest claim only included weddings for 6 months. He'd like you to believe that he can do 2 weddings each day, every weekend. As real DJ's know, doing 2 gigs in a day happens. Just not all the time. Getting the inquires to line up so perfectly that you are able to book the morning and afternoon EVERY WEEKEND would be incredibly time consuming. When I mentioned that before, he said he had a full team of people working for him, and he was not only booking shows for himself, but had a team of DJs he was booking shows for. The only employee DJs in the world, apparently, that can keep such a good secret.

The reality is someone that was running a DJ company with such amazing efficiency would not be able to remain a secret, even if they wanted to....and what real business wants to be a secret? Add to that an owner that likes to brag about his accomplishments...and it becomes very easy to understand that this is all make believe.

We have always heard that truth is stranger than fiction. In this case, I'd say his "truth" IS FICTION:)

The sad reality is he's probably a DJ, or used to be a DJ, and is not happy with the way things are working out. He feels that no one would notice him or care if they thought he was just another DJ, so he created this "Super DJ" persona that books more, does more, knows more, and is more professional, than anyone.
It's more important for him to be noticed than liked. He believes the people that don't like "him" are jealous of this persona and secretly would like to be him. He enjoys that posts are being written about his persona, even negative ones...because he's being noticed, something he doesn't get in real life.

RE: Original Post - This could be interesting ... for those that say no, please also explain.

No, you are being paid to take photographs but, that does not make you a professional photographer. An explanation is not required.. it would be incumbent upon you to provide your credentials and professional references, of which you have none. So far, all you have is a few nice photos and it is unknown if you can repeat that kind of image quality in a timely, reliable, and efficient way.

To be considered a "professional" in the context you are posing requires that the successful outcome of your services be highly predictable - and that requires a demonstrable history and/or credentials.

I think much of how you are characterizing this business is just as fictional in your own way. You're simply unwilling to accept what you've never personally experienced - and as a consequence won't even tolerate people who can at least acknowledge that it is possible.

I really don't care who is fake or who is real - what I care about is do their points make sense and can they be applied in the real world.

For example, I am one such DJ who does have a history of being able to book 2 (or more) events nearly every Saturday of the year. However, it once cost about $22k /yr in high profile magazine advertising alone to do that, and the logistics of it are beyond the capacity of anyone trying to do this part time. I am not alone. There are dozens of friends, associates, and competitors I know of in my own area who can, and do book like this. The internet of course, has changed a lot of things - but, that is only one vehicle. The core of knowing how to reach the right people with the right message and credentials has not and will never change. Much of that eludes the people who do this part time. They are simply not involved enough to know what really makes the event industry in their area tick.

I don't require that someone prove to me that they can do or have done this before I could accept their opinion on it. I already know it can be and is done all the time. I can accept their opinion and weight it based on their experience versus my own. There is also the matter of basic common sense - some people have it and others don't. For example - anyone who tells you that location doesn't matter with regard to what you can earn is a fool. I couldn't possibly book that heavily if I wasn't located near a major city. That should be common sense.

That is an excellent post Bob. If more people would listen to the message instead of attacking the messenger maybe their horizons would be broadened. Some forget that there are more Entertainment money making opportunities other than just Weddings. Some also don't realize that there may be a different mindset between those who DJ as a business/profession and those who do it as a hobby and may be in it mainly for the fun part.

If any one really wants a working definition of what makes a true "professional" - it is the proven and reliable predictability of a successful outcome.

As normal, you've shown what you are great at...taking and clipping one part of what someone says and turning their meaning completely around. You either don't read it all, or don't comprehend it all.

I never said that's it's not possible. I said it's very difficult. I also said that someone that enjoys bragging about what they are doing would not hide if it were true.

but please, continue....

I took the most important part of what you said - which was and remains the effort to tear someone else down.

Sorry, but when I see complete BS, I call it just that. If you think that's mean, then toughen up, Sally:)

It is ironic coming from you. I would say the good majority of your posts are an effort to tear someone else down. And you are usually ignoring the facts to do it.

Canute I thanked Bob for his response above and then you have to drag negative into it with yours. Nice going pal.

So, are you describing ME or my facts?

That would be "your" definition .. as Webster and Wikipedia define it as "a person who is paid to undertake a specialized set of tasks and to complete them for a fee." Proof, reliability and success are what set one professional apart from another.

Jon,
I am appalled at your conclusions. It just goes to show how overly sensitive one can be. What is so negative about that post? Tell me if anything I said cannot be the truth! If what I said relates to you or anyone else and you are offended by a simple fact then man up and stop being a cry baby. Statements like yours are what causes the long pages of posts that tun into ugliness. I'm done!

Bob posted useful and a decent response and you have to immediately make it about your agenda

This isnt necessary since your opinion is so well received and we might want to mend those bridges. Continuing to go negative like this keeps the fire burning. I hope you enjoy it as most dont. You telling people to listen is pretty much a Que for folks to ignore at this point which is sad cause you do have lots to offer but approach and timing very amateur. Let people broaden their horizons how and when they want to not by order of your Highness's command.

MY AGENDA! Ohh please! What you are trying to do is use psychological warfare on me. You say things to get your buddies to agree with you. Just like you are so quick to click on the "Like" of posters who have opposing views against what I post. I see your game! Wherever the wind blows there is 'ol Jon going along for the ride. LOL :) Truth hurts doesn't it? Call it negative or whatever you want but it still remains the truth. You are the one perpetuating it with your apocryphal statements.
