That's one HELLUVA tower![emoji1] That's more drive space than I have in any of my servers. Are you planning to RAID the 4TB drives? How much of that space do you think you're data will consume? How will you back it up?

No I need them for picture and music storage. I do have 10Tb of NAS storage (5Tb effective with the mirror RAID) and 2 external 4Tb drives for backup.

Here's the result so far...

No more Windows 10, all Windows 7 drivers installed, and everything works; even the built-in Webcam. Getting the Webcam software and driver was a little bit of a chore. It wasn't one of the downloadable drivers for the 7440, and to get it, you need to register your computer... only I could not register mine because the Service Tag had already been registered to the original owner. Ooops! Got on a chat session with a support tech, and he sent me a link so I could download the driver and software. Got it and installed it, and now it works. Can't think of anything I'd use the Webcam for when DJing, but I'm OCD, so EVERYTHING has to work or I feel out-of-whack.

I'm on Windows 10 on my home computers, but I'm sticking with Windows 7 for my DJ computers for now. I've had a couple of issues with Windows 10 automatic updates screwing stuff up, and I'm just not willing to risk it with my (DJ) business computers just yet. Windows 10 is stable enough until it gets one of those flakey automatic updates, and you have no control of it. With the "Creator's" update, you'll have even less control.

I'm in the process of switching from 15" to 17" laptops. Here's the first one - an i3 Toshiba also on Windows 7.
Serato DJ with a larger font selected for the library. Hopefully, I won't need my reading glasses!! It's getting a torture test - running all day on AutoPlay.

Very nice! If I was gonna do laptops, they would HAVE to be 17" like yours. I decided to go with 22" monitors so I could actually see what I'm doing.[emoji1]Now, I think it would be hard to go to something like a 17 laptop, which is why I like my new AIO computer. It's almost 24".[emoji1] Pretty soon perhaps, I'll work my way up to a 40" monitor.[emoji1]

The torture test is a good idea. I haven't loaded music on mine yet, but that's the same thing I'll be doing once it's loaded.

I've been running 15" screens. They seem to be not too big and not too small. Just right. :)
Same ... I don't run a HD resolution UI, so the text is large enough for me.

WHOA! your font is huge. I actually prefer smaller laptop too. Blends in nicer. I use a 13, but next will be 11"

Auto play on Serato won't stress it out.

If you want to stress test it, put it into 4 deck mode playing tracks on all 4, and then start layering multiple software based FX on top. After that, start triggering the sampler.

If the computer can handle that, there are very few things that you can do to it in the course of normal DJing that will push its limits.

Correct. I did the usual PC Optimization stuff, and I wanted to make sure the laptop isn't going to get any USB or HDD timeouts, etc., etc.. It was hooked up to my Vestax 2 channel controller and played unattended over 10 hours. Tonight I'll hook it up to my 4 channel one and, as you suggested, throw the kitchen sink at it.

Here's a comparison between the new All-In-One computer (rear) and the old monitor it replaces... 23.8" verses 22".

You can't tell very easily but there's a 2.5" difference in both the width and height. The size difference in the screens themselves isn't that great... almost the same on height, but almost two inches on the width.

If you buy a new popular brand PC with a decent processor, stress testing probably isn’t necessary. If you buy used, build your own, or buy an unknown brand of computer, it’s a good idea to give it a good test before you try to use it for a DJ gig. Playing music on a computer, if you have ample CPU and memory resources, is not much of a strain on a good PC, but it’s always good to know if your computer is going to overheat. A program like HWMonitor is important to have running while testing to keep tabs on your computer’s temperatures.

You can get all the tools you need to conduct CPU, graphics, and memory tests for free. Some popular options are …

1. IntelBurnTestThis application uses the same stress-testing engine that Intel uses internally for quality control before shipping out CPUs.

2. FurMarkThis application performs a graphics stress test.

3. MemTest86: - This application will test your RAM. You have to boot your PC with a copy of this program, so you need to make a bootable USB version, or a CD version from the download

The two things that fail most in a computer, and there’s not much you can do to test for it, are disk drives and power supplies. Doesn’t matter how much you test your computer beforehand; when they fail, they fail.

Which Vestax controller?
